    Hey guys,

I just wanted to know what hard drive you'd recommend in getting with the sz780. It currently comes with a 160 hybrid drive. (sonystyle.ca)

My question is, is should i stick with the 160 hybrid over paying an additional 30$ for the 120 hard drive? i don't really care about the extra 40gbs, i mean it'd be nice but im thinking more of performance and what not. Your thoughts?

And i know this might be a stupid question but is there anywhere i can find what brands are all the parts they use? ie hard drives, ram etc? cause i realy don't think sony makes ram..? or am i really that tech illiterate

    Thanks in advance!

yeah i know theres pros and cons, however i just want to see everyones opinion on it and if its generally accepted or if others use it and have problems.

just basically, is it worth getting after all is said and done?

    unless u mean a 7200rpm drive....

by far get the 160gb - you won't notice a speed difference at all if they're both 5400rpm, i know the hybrid part is supposed to be "slower" but i guarantee you, that you will never see that difference, unless running second by second speed tests....

and you will use the space eventually so def get the 160gb

and if it is 7200rpm for the 120 - i would still get he 160 simply because i wouldn't waist the $30 for a 7200rpm 120gb drive, when nowadays you can get the 250gb 5400pm which is the same speed as the 120gbb 7200rpm because of more platters and then you get double the space, so save your money and upgrade later

I disagree, I found no advantage to the hybrid drive and found great performance gains going from the stock hybrid @ 4200 RPM to a WD 320GB @ 5400 RPM. I must also qualify that statement since a downgraded to XP at the same time.

I found the stock hybrid drive works just fine in a portable USB enclosure for additional storage.

Interesting Llort ... do you know whether any limitation on disk drive size for SZ ? the spec and available option on sony to purchase is 250GB and there is no specification to say what max drive size supported.
Also thanks for the tips on the portable USB enclosure thing .. i am thinking the same also whether possible to use the stock drive for backup purpose ..
