Have you tried running in Stamina mode? That should disable the NVidia and run a lot cooler.

There is also a setting to set the fan to Silent mode in Windows.
Can't check now, as I'm running Ubuntu.

at least your computer is running very cool!

i believe the fan settings are controlled in the sony bios.. and sony made the fan go on often just to make sure that nothing.. ever overheats

Set Vista in Powersaving profile and Vaio Control center in silent mode.

If that doesn't work you may want to try NHC, but I doubt it will work.

There are three different levels of aggressiveness for the fan, which is independent of the Speed/Stamina switch, and can be set using the Vaio Control Center (or by assigning an S key to it):
    - Silent
    - Balanced
    - Performance

Even if i put it in Silent Mode, I can still hear the fan going.
Does the fan ever STOP FANNING?
My friend has a macbook and it is super quiet and the fan never goes on.
Is it possible to change the setting on my Z so the fan only comes on when it goes over 50 degrees or something?

Did you also put Vista in Powersaving mode?

If that doesn't help try NHC. On some laptops it lets you control the fans.

If that doesn't help turn on some music ;)
