    Hi,

I have owned a Toshiba Portege R100 for a year now, and it has been fantastic. It was my first sub-14" screen and no way am I going back bigger again, small is wonderful.

So having studied the market the only, good looking, small computer appears to be the Sony T-series. I like the idea of the X-Bright Widescreen and the built in very long battery and disc drive as advantages over my current one. But upgrading a computer to another of the same hard drive capacity brings me to my next point, which is whether you can replace the hard drive for another say 1.8" 60GB one and then install the image onto that so that it will have the XP on it and it will have the extra Sony settings and features??

Another thing is, that although I have read on the web that there are 2 memory slots, I have also read some places that it has 2x256mb and some claim that there is just one slot, that has a 512mb chip in it. I would like to have 1GB in it and was wondering if anybody could clarify this?

But before buying one I think I read here a subtle mention of a T2XP, and was wondering how long it might be before this came to fruition? Or are there any rivals that I might have missed considering that looks are very important!

    Thanks,

    ShMeE

Replacing the drive is not for the faint of heart. (That would include me.) I don't know what the operation would do to the computer's warranty. If you want the extra 20G, wait for the T2.

The US T150 comes with one 512M stick, which is more-or-less permanently installed, and one memory slot. It's rather easy to add a 512M stick to bring the total up to 1G. The Sony instructions are confusing on one point. They show pusing the keyboard retention tabs to the side. In fact, they must be pushed back (towards the battery.)

I've had my T150P for several months. I can't find anything about it that I don't like.

Apparently we will see these in March (a couple of weeks then ;) ). Not sure of final specs but expect it to come with a slightly faster 1.20GHz processor and 60GB HD. I expect it will only come with 512mb of RAM although this is easily upgradeable to 1gb and also cheaper if you buy a non-sony memory stick !! ;) I am certainly waiting until they turn up.

Only thing I would have liked to see but has been missed off the spec's list is a TV out port. The fujitsu p7010 has this aswell as almost identical spec as above (apart from no integral BT and lower battery life).

I think they may let you register as an individual, not really sure, I just remember it not being too complicated. Don't forget that the prices you see are exc. VAT, so they aren't quite that cheap! Well they are certainly good prices.

I am going on holiday on Saturday, and have decided to buy the T1XP which I have reserved at Dixons in the airport as it's only £1360 and because to be honest it's not worth paying £200 more for 20gb extra hdd, expecially when I have a number of USB storage devices (1GB SD Card, 1GB MSDuo Pro, 20GB Sony HD3, 60GB HDD - seems unnecessary). The extra .1GHz would be nice, but not worth crying over! Unless somebody wants to point out something major different that I haven't noticed!!!

Plus from further investigation I don't think that the PCWB guy really knew what he was talking about as sony have told me it isn't expected within the next month, and they haven't even announced it yet, so who knows when we will have the T2XP. But I might change when it's cheaper if I decide it's worth it.

    Guys

I think you're better off buying in US and importing:

    http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start?CategoryName=cpu_VAIONotebookComputers_TSeries&Dept=cpu_VAIONotebookComputers

Basic T150 is about $2199 list which is £1,176 £1,360.
I'm thinking about getting a mate to import one over if anyone is interested?

    Cheers

It means too much to me to have an English keyboard rather than American, with the @ symbol in a different place!

But maybe not to everyone, plus it is generally American, and warranty and insurance is only available in this country with an English computer. Every one I have owned until now has been to the insurers at least once in its life. The R100 is the first not to, but it is only 1 year old.

The T2XP is out in march. Saw one yesterday, looks the same as the T1, as you all know it's 100MHz faster, but with the new sonoma chipset i believe, so overall it's faster than the T1 due to the faster bus speed. Don't quote me on this as the Sony guy could've been wrong! nice machine though. Ran considerably cooler (was barely warm) compared to the S3VP beside it! both are lovely machines tho. But IBM blew me away! they can withstand a drop, drink spilt on keyboard and u can stand on it!! Also the new Sonoma chipset supports new wireless chips, possibly a/b/g rather than b/g or g.. forget which.
