    Hi eveyone,

I am in teh process of buying new laptop, and have pretty much decided that I want a Vaio T series.

Now, the new T3 series has the built in WAN EDGE antenna or whatever you wanna call it. I have a Sonyericson s710a with a Cingular plan that includes unlimited "mediaNET". I have used a bluetooth dongle to connect to my phone so far to tether the mediaNET connection which has worked pretty well. (I dont use it an awefull lot,so I havenever been charged or heard anything from Cingular)

Does anyone know if I could just plug in my sim card to the new T3 series and configure the connection manager to connect using my cellphone plan; or does it only work with Cingulars actual data plan?

Also I was wondering as what kind of device the EDGE "modem" shows up. I usually run Linux and was wondering whether I would evenbe able to use this device under Linux.

I have also debated whether to get a T350or 250, since I can always just use blutooth to connect via my phone. I there any other differencesbetween teh twothan the WAN? Any processor, chipset or other updates that make getting the T350 worth getting?

    Thanks for any comments,
    Thomas

PS: Iguess I am still debating alittle bit on whether to get an S series, because they are quite a bit cheaper. Has anyone handled both? (I looked at both at a local store, and after looking at the T, the S just doesnt seem that small and sleek anymore)

The only difference between the T350 and the T250 is that the T350 can burn dual layer DVD+R's and has WAN. For me that wasn't enough of a difference so I bagged a T250 off of Ebay for $1660 shipped and then added another 512MB of RAM to that for $122. I would say go with the T250. I'm typing on it right now and I love it...haven'y had to recharge in like 4-5 hours and it says I have another 2 hours to go. Woohoo.

Sweet, I think thats what I will be doing, I have been looking on ebay. I guess the only thing Iam worried about is getting a unitwith dead pixels; whereas in a store I could just go and check it first...whatssony's policy on teh manufacturers waranty and dead pixels?

Is this teh kind of memory I wouldneed to get newegg memory (PC2700)

Not sure about that policy but I had similar concerns when I bought using Ebay. Luckily, the unit was flawless upon arrival so I am a lucky guy!

I think that is not the correct type. I think we need 176 pin. I don't have the link to where I bought my RAM anymore but I just got the part number off of SonyStyle and then searched for low prices online.

So excited!!! :base: <<(wheres the sony/vaio smiley??)

Now all I need is to find some memory (thanks for theadvice)
Found this in another forum Price has dropped quite a bit: $69!! I don't think I can say no to that! ;)
I am starting to go buck wild on wanting to buy accesories for my new baby already...I should probably wait til it gets here and I can make sure its OK

I'm glad I could help you. I would say that it's not jumping the gun to go ahead and buy the memory upgrade - you'll be glad you did. Now that you have bought the notebook you will be thinking about it non-stop until it gets here, if you are anything like me. Heck, I went to electronics stores on a daily basis just to play with the floor unit they had on display. Let us know how you like it when it arrives.

:D :D :D Thats so funny...I've been a regular at best buy the last week, stopping by at least ones a day (its a half hour drive). Just to play with the display model of the T350 they have there. It always end up the same, but I cant help the urge to stop by and touch it!! :D :D
