hi, i was looking into getting a new laptop and ive narrowed my choice down to a sony sz. I was wondering if i should choose a T7500 processor, or go with the T8100. I know the penryn is newer, but was wondering what your thoughts are since it is slower and has a smaller L2 cache. thanks in advance

What's the price difference? Honestly, the T7500 will probably be more than enough juice. The penryn might be better on battery, but not enough to make a significant difference.

to be honest, i wanna spend under 1500. im going to dental school, and that is insanely expensive as it is :D . Normally i would shell out for the best, but now im gonna have to be frugal for the next 4 yrs.

Will the battery life have a significant increase with penryn?

Well, if you're looking for power for under 1500, are you sure a Sony sz is your best bet? Try filling out the faq.

Edit: Penryn really hasn't been out long enough for many benchmarks to be had, so I can't really comment on exactly how much you'd save by going Penryn.

    are u in canada?
coz T7500 is in SZ650 which has been long gone from US
the T8100 is in the new SZ780CN

they are both currently the same price and for that reason I would get T8100
unless u can get SZ650 cheap? if u can and u are in canada..let me know where lol..

If you can I'd go up to T8300. But if not I'd stick with T7500. From what I've heard either choice will probably be more than enough for almost any task.

T8100 is SLOWER than the T7500 and costs more.

Dont get any PEnryn until May or June, it is a complete waste to get it on Santa Rosa , all test whos it is not much faster than Meroms.

It's just manufacturers placing a premium on them because they are new processors.

The T8100 is actually about $100 (can't remember exact difference) cheaper than the T7500 according to intels price lists.

When penryn processors completely replace Meroms, then the T8100 price will drop.
