Hi, after a lot of searching/fiddling, I thought I'd post this solution:

Symptom: If you have downgraded your SZ650 to XP, you _may_ have this issue:
When you put down the lid of the laptop, the screen blacks out. When you open it up again, some times (around 50% of time for me), the screen would turn on and turn off again. You would need to repeat this operation multiple times for the screen to 'stay on'.

This is even after you set 'Do nothing' in 'when you close the lid' in power management.

This happens only in speed mode, not stamina mode. i.e there is a problem with ACPI and NVidia drivers.

    Solution:
After I guessed this is an "ACPI lid" problem, I searched forums and finally found this solution (forgot the forum link, sorry):
The solution is to go to device manager, click on System Devices and ACPI lid. You would notice that you cannot 'disable' it. Don't uninstall it either - it causes problems with the OS. Instead, update the driver, say you will locate it yourself, uncheck compatible devices and update it with the "Volume Manager" driver. That's all - reboot

Now when you reboot, you can still do power management, use Fn keys for brightness etc, but the ACPI lid does not interfere. Now when you put the lid down, the screen stays on.

    Hooray.

I did not really have a problem with the screen blanking out - but had a huge problem with the screen randomly not turning on when I opened the screen.

    I thought this may help.
