I pinched my monitor to PC tower cable and hooked it up to my laptop instead. The monitor shows the image perfectly but contains no red (ie it's very strong blues and greens). I used the same "monitor - monitor" cable to connect my laptop to my LCD television, which shows the colour in the very same way. Everything is utterly perfect, bar the fact it is very green!!

I searched the internet for about 4/5 hours in attempt to solve this problem with no joy. I've been all over XP trying to find customisable settings, and the laptop's graphics card doesn't seem to have a way to adjust the colour. Any ideas?

    Thanks!!

The first pin or first "hole" in the VGA adapter is broken, thus carrying no red signal.

Thanks for your response, which seems logical, but I have tried it with two different VGA cables on a TV and on a PC monitor. The image is exactly the same on both the TV and the PC monitor - there is no red on either.

Any other ideas? Could it be my laptop's port is damaged or something?

    well I think

that means that its broken...esp seeing as he even used the word broken!

Needs to be sent for repair (ie new motherboard).

ah, when he said "VGA adapter" was broken I thought he meant the cable may be broken, not the port. This is because the manual for my TV shows the TV connected to the cable which then goes into a small adapter and finally into the laptop's port.. but i'm not going through said adapter, as I dont have one.

Gutted...I'll try using a S-video cable instead. thanks guys
