My TX2/XP has an Intel 2200bg wifi interface, and I would like to upgrade it to a 2915abg or 3945abq

Does anyone know if the wifi adaptor in the machine is removable, perhaps as a minipci card?

Neither Windows device manager nor linux "lspci" gives me any clue

I don't want to open it up and break it (like I did with my Sharp Zaurus in an abortive attempt to fit bluetooth  )

    thanks for reading

I asked on Sony's own club vaio forums and someone came up some pictures that clearly showed underneath the TX/TX2/TX3 keyboard is a miniPCI ipw2200bg card... so in theory it'd be possible to switch it for a 2950abg.

I had a go at lifting my keyboard but it didn't want to come up easily and being a bit timid and not wanting to wreck it, I gave up quickly!

As for microphone, examining the specifications indicate there isn't one, but plugging in an external mic gives good results. I am wondering if the mic socket is stereo, and I am now able to give it a try.

The TX3/TX850/TXN1x use a PCI Express card. The TX2 and below use the mini-pci card.

The wifi card is removerable and replaceable. I put in an Atheros AR5424 in my TXN15.

For me, it's not too difficult but not as easy as eating a cake. You need to lift up the keyboard and there is the wifi card. You don't even need to open up to see the motherboard. In fact, I did because I wanted to change cpu cooling paste. But just changing wifi card, you do not need to go that deep.
