When I saw TX650, only the screen case is made out of carbon fibers. The rest of the body is made out of cheap plastic? For that type of $$$, do not you guys feel that Sony left out something?

Asus is the maker of Sony laptops. They're known for their build quality and excellent screens. I'm sure the rest of the body should be sturdy enough. I saw a few at the Metreon in San Francisco- very light, but pricey. You can also look at Asus alternatives for a lot less... meaning without the Sony name on it.

They're all like this in the ultra port category I believe. I know Fujitsu does the same exact thing.

The TX is fairly flimsy. Easily the cheapest feeling notebook I've had in my hands in a while. Contributing to the cheap feeling was the chasis that flexed easily and sqeaked when I moved my left wrist or pressed a mouse button. The new Fujitsu P7120 feels multitudes of times better. The palm rest is plastic but is reinforced to reduced flexing. The bottom of the P is a solid piece of magnesium.

where did u get this fact from?
I've seen it coming from a few person who said it was written in a magazine or something. While it's probably true Sony source the parts from all over like Asus for mobo, matsu****a for drive, etc, the design and assembly I believe are done by Sony themselves. Asus never once make such a sleek and slim laptop that Sony are known for esp the old pcg U series, etc. So I believe that the claim is quite groundless imo. Or maybe, there is some truth, that Sony asks Asus to build some of the laptop - perhaps the lower end line to cut the costs since Asus are made in taiwan(or china). I believe most high end vaios are made in japan and are still manufactured by Sony themselves

I do not believe any of these. It is true that I think TX should be made entirely with Carbon fiber. But I am not so sure if Asus make case for sony. Asus is rather known for making internal components such as motherboard and GFX card. I have feeling that Asus uses case that is made by other 3rd party company. Sony probably does the same. The design and specs are made by Sony and Asus etc .. but there must be a 3rd party vendor where they manufature cases for other electronic companies.

Oh... pray tell, Asus only makes a few and far in between slim notebooks and now u r saying 'hail asus' for making such slim notebooks. Sony has been producing v small and thin notebooks way before Asus and what does this tell you?
I know their build is solid - and so is IBM, fujitsu or toshiba for that matter of fact.not gonna touch on that anyway

making stuff up? I've seen asus models while they are good they are nowhere quite as revolutionary in design as what Sony has come up with - U series, S (powerhouse in lightweight category), TX series, or even the japan only release full carbon body VAIO VGN-X505 which won the accolade for being the world's thinnest notebook at that time.

You just gotta admit - Sony does their own homework and build the laptop from the ground up - albeit perhaps using an ASUS mobo

and btw youyr last paragraph is a joke. Seriously. Which company can order another MNC around? It's like them a rival in notebook asking another to produce lower material body for the latter's notebook production such that to jeopardise Asus market. U think they're some 2-3 yr old kid playing the 'who's tbe boss' game? U think Asus is fool enough in the first place to be ordered ard when they are selling their notebook as much or more than Sony's? Who is Sony to order ASUS?

    u r full of bull
thanks for making me have a good laugh
    period

you got to love the Asus W3 where they put the hole where you put the lock in next to the 2 USB slots.
