Hi, all!
I currently have a TX770P/B. I love the unit. Ever since the TX850 and TXN15 were announced, I've been leaning towards upgrading to one of those models. The main aim is to have the fingerprint scanner and the hard drive shock protection feature.
There was a TX750 and TXN15 side-by-side at Fry's. The screen quality was identical. Some had said that Sony did a better job with the TX850 and TXN15 with the LED bleeding, but I could not tell a difference. Then again, I was looking at this stuff underneath a canopy of flourescent lights.
What I'm wondering the actual benchmarks received between the TX750's ULV P-M and Intel 915 versus the TX850's Core Solo U1400 and Intel 945/950. My guess is that the TX850 and TXN15 will have a slight advantage with the higher bus and faster memory.
So, what the hell is my question?! Well, I'm wondering if anyone of you have had experience with the TX770 (or TX750) versus either a TX850 or TXN15. If so, can you elaborate on any of the above?
Thanks!

I know for sure that the TX8XXs will have better battery life than the TX7XXs, how much more, at least 15% better.
-
The TX850 is definitely better than a TX7xx but I would wait a bit longer if I were you. Cosmetic wise TX7xx and TX850 are identical. No one would notice you got a new laptop.
My friend upgraded from a T250 (P-M 1.2ghz, 512mb ram) to a TX850 and said there's is very little performance increase, if even noticeable. The biometric sensor is cool but it's not necessary. The shock protection has a lot of problems like causing the computer to freeze even with the latest patch.
Wait for Vista to come out and Sony's going to release a newer TX series, or new generation of T. Good luck. -
outie, many thanks for your reply and story regarding the upgrade. I actually bought an SZ360P/C this weekend. It's a sweet machine, but I miss the size of the TX770. One of 'em will have to go.
I have had T and TX Vaios for the past two years. I think I'm going to keep the SZ and wait for the next generation of T(X) series. -
You must be a very wealthy individual to be able to buy laptops at a whim
-
I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion. I work many an hour to feed this hobby/addiction
-
I'm jealous as well.

I've got my eye set on a SZ360 as well. Does your new 360 come with the same gargantuan power brick as before? And how's the LCD light bleeding?
-
I've never had another SZ, but yes, this power brick is HUGE! It lists as 19V, but I'm guessing the amperage is a little higher than the others (did not check that value). I've watched the LCD like a hawk when the background is black (like when the OS is loading). The bleeding is virually nonexistent. It's pretty amazing. The screen itself can be described as XBRITE growing up and graduating college. It's crisp, solid and vibrant without looking like it's encased behind a half-inch thick pane of glass.
I'm running Vista RC2, and I've got everything working except the webcam. I've been following some other forums, so that will come in time. I am also using a 1GB Memory Stick as a ReadyBoost device. The performance is staggering! -
Nice job, jumpup (I assume you've been to the Caribbean
, I know they fixed the spacebar problem, how about the battery is it still lose?
Vista must look really nice on that lappy! -
Haha! I haven't ever been to the Caribbean. Was it the username that made you think that?
-
Yea! A jump-up is a Caribbean steelband dance party!

It is a music-related nickname, but it wasn't referring to that. It used to define a style of drum & bass that used to be around in the late 90s. That style of music owes its existence to reggae and the two most common drum loops in rap/hiphop (the amen break and the "funky drummer" break). So, I'm sure there are some correlations.
All-in-all, I've just always liked the term when thinking about great music to get you going. -
OH! Drum n Bass! You need one of those t-shirts that look like Dolce & Gabbana, but say D&B!

Hi I am planing to get a TX850, but I am not sure about TXN15.
So what is the difference between TX850 and TXN15? They look like the same to me except the Wireless WAN functionality?
-
According to other members of this forum (see past posts) The difference between the two is the lack of EDVO(-$150) and some of sonys bloatware. My big desicion is whether or not the TXN 17 is worth the extra $400 for the Maxed out 2 gigs of RAM vs. 1.5 maxed out on the TXN15. I worry that when plugged into a larger monitor with multiple windows running that the 1.5 Gigs shared with the video memory wont be enough? Also if I decide to upgrade to vista OS and not use the new 3d interface will 1.5gigs shared memory handle the load?
