Hello all have been reading some back posts on this forum and have some questions regarding Ram Stick configuration on the TX series before I buy?
The new TXN and 800 core solo motherboards can obviously handle up to 2 Gigs of Ram because the TXN(17&19) come pre-configured at 2gigs for a premium price increase ($400 to $500).
Now as I understand memory, in the TXN 15s, it is limited because only 512 MB is hard soldered onto the motherboard which leaves only one slot open and therefore a max memory of 1.5 Gigs.
So onto the questions????
1. If you buy a TXN 15 and max the memory out at 1.5 Gigs you now have a mismatched set of DDR2 Ram, as I understand RAM you loose the Double Data Rate without a matched set of sticks.
a. Is it better to have 1.5G at single data rate or 1G at
DDR???
2. Is it possible to max out a TXN 15 with a single 2 Gig stick of Ram
a. Will the motherboard recognize memory in an excess
situation?
b. Will having two dramatically mismatched memory
modules affect performance?
3. Is the internal memory module on the TX series physically soldered onto the motherboard or is it a stick/slot in a non user friendly location without actual access?
Now I know that some of you are going to say why does he need all that memory for such a small computer with limited screen real estate and such a whimpy little core solo processor compared to our SZ core duo/ Nvidia Glorry?![]()
My answer would be that I currently am running a 1.2 GHz Pentium M with 512MB of pc133 memory that does everything I need is to with the exception of fast Video Ripping, which I usually do in big chunks on my speedy home machine.
The only other drawback to my current setup (besides the fact that it could easily be used as a boat anchor) is that when I am not at sea or on the road and plug my laptop into my beautiful 24 inch Dell widescreen display and open several firefox windows, transfer some files, and try to open the DVD player I run out of memory.
Now correct me if I am wrong but the TX series does have a VGA port and can be connected to a second monitor. Seeing as the video card uses shared memory wouldnt it be prudent to have as much memory as possible running as fast as possible?
Thanks in advance for your input.![]()
