When the computer has the wireless LAN activated, my CPU usage hovers at a constant 25% or so (sometimes spiking up to 35%). (Turning off the WLAN causes the CPU to go back down to between 0% and 7%.) Is this normal?
Surely this will have a negative impact on battery life if I'm using the WLAN feature.
I have an 802.11b wireless router hooked up to a cable modem, and I am using WEP 128 bit security.

Thanks for the link, but that doesn't really answer the question of whether such a high CPU usage for wireless networking is normal, even when I'm not doing anything.

So is this normal that wireless networking uses up so much CPU performance?
I tried turning off the WEP encryption, but there was no difference.
The CPU usage occurs even though there are no packets being sent and received over the wireless network. Just being connected uses up the CPU cycles. The two processes involved are services.exe and svchost.exe.
