this is the error message i am receiving on my new TZ170N (vista) when I try to install *any* update to the computer from Sony. I am downloading BIOS, smart-wi, etc updates and I cannot load them.

actually its a huge problem for me because I was having problems with the smart-wi (sprint) and so at the request of support I uninstalled and then when I go to reinstall smart-wi it gives me the message above.

when I go to Help & Support and try to do the "Reinstall Programs or Drivers" from "Vaio Recovery Center" that is built in to vista under help & support, I get a crash "LAUNCHER.EXE" has stopped working when I try to start the restoral process.

Did anyone else experience this or have any solution for it?? I am stumped.
    thank you.

I am getting them directly from esupport.sony.com
I emailed them too and actually they wrote back and told me that I may be missing something called "Sony shared Library" which they suggest I download and install. I am not near the laptop now so I will test that tomorrow and hopefully it will solve the problem!! I will post back.

Okay, well I tried installing the sony shared library and that did NOT fix the problem- I still cannot install any updates nor can I run the Sony built in driver/software reinstallation from help & support. Is there anything I can do short of wiping out this laptop completely and setting everything up again?? I really dont want to have to do that. help

In your windows directory create a file called "model.txt" and put in it your model - VGN-TZ170N and you should be able to install any of the updated and files from there.
