The new series are posted on SonyStyle. I didn't seen any posts here about them. Prices are similar but specs are improved and a new color on the 250.

I wonder when the TZ92 will be announced in Japan? And I guess the white color wasn't popular since they didn't refresh it here.
I can't wait to see the next T series from Sony, especially with Montevina ULV.

I've seen a TZ270 with a friend of mine a couple of months ago, I thought it was the middle east version of the TZ since he had bought it from Dubai. Is that really new? It has the exact same specs as the TZ170.

    No, you didn't see a TZ270, you saw a TZ27. That's a different laptop, roughly equivalent to a TZ170 in the States.

We have discussed about the new TZ2xx series about a month ago. Rahul found out the new TZ298 model in Sonystyle.
Well, many people wouldn't call it a major improvement from the previous model. Just minor features as the 1.3 mp camera over the old 0.3 and the slightly better 1.33 cpu instead of the 1.2.
    Nothing exceptional in my opinion.

Yeah, curious to see the prices in Japan. Really, why did they bother to change just these minor things of the previous model? Now is kinda worth it take the TZ190... :)
I hope that the next refresh will change the preistoric 945 chipset and put the Montevina. Do you guys think that we will see a next refresh of the TZ or will come a new T series?

I would not like that Sony took away the white option; it's is quite elegant. Is there a link to this info?

Also I look forward to the Montevina ULV. But such a model will not appear in shops before early autumn, I think? Is this right?

BTW, hope Sony rather expands the variety of color options in the TZ series. Or the next T series.

It is only for us in North America (USA, Canada) that there is no newer TZ model in white, we have one older white model (VGN-TZ185N/WC) and it is not popular so they didn't refresh it.

The white TZs are most popular in Asia, do not worry, Sony Japan will not remove any color options in the custom order TZ92.

Sony kept the previous TX series in production for over 1.5 years (late 2005 to mid 2007) and the SZ for over two years (early 2006 to present), so I bet they will probably stick with the TZ design and refresh it to Montevina.

I think Sony only refreshes their T series laptops when it is worth it. For example, they did not put the Core Duo ULV chips when they came out, but waited for the Core 2 Duo chips. So I think they will wait until Montevina which is a nice upgrade.

The TX was very nice, the TZ even better, so I can't wait for the next T series!

We have had a TZ250N/P model announced, which is in a new color, pink. I wonder how this color will do?

In my opinion the pink looks horrible. They should have added a really dark green almost black. I think that would have been cool looking.

"Give me all the colors of the world..."

I hope Sony even will include a really cool blue one also, not too dark.

When should we expect a price drop for the current models? Also, when (long time away, I think) do you expect the SSD drives to begin dropping in price?

If your going to see nice price reductions, they'll be from other vendors, not Sonystyle. Recently, Amazon had been selling the TZ190N/B for $2099, sold out quickly of course.

Thank you. I've bought several Fujitsus from PortableOne and am considering using them again, even if it is not the absolute cheapest. Is it likely that we'll see them drop prices over the next two months? I can wait a bit, but if there is no real advantage I might go ahead and do it next month. The biggest dig for me is that I would love an SSD drive. I doubt the price of those will drop much soon, but if the higher capacity ones are out without too much of a price bump I might consider it (or something with both types of drive).

    Thanks for your help :)

Many SSD players are entering the market as we speak. We will likely see an effect of that competition by March or April. Don't expect any prices to ease up before then.

I've seen the white in person, and it looks much better than the black models. The reason it hasn't been as successful as the other models is because they are charging a premium for the white model. It is $600 more than the TZ170, which is the same notebook with a slightly weaker processor and no leather case. If they offered a white TZ150 model, I may have gotten one.

..except Sonystyle Canada for now. TZ170CN is selling at $1999.99, and can receive a gift card of up to $300.00 after activating the Wireless Internet Service Plan with Bell, if the buyer plans to of course.

Ken Wind wrote that they are charging a premium for the white model. As you can see, Conics doesn't put a premium on the white TZ. I have bought one white TZ (64 SSD and DVD) from them, and it is "the most beautiful (...) in the world...."

I noticed that you could get a white one imported from Conics for no extra charge. It was too expensive for me though, and I didn't like the idea of not having a North American warranty.

I confirm that the white colour on TZ is amazing! Initially I was sceptical about it but seeing it in a shop made me change my mind...I'm also interested on the green colour. Any of you guys have some pics of the green TZ? The TZ90 that I owned get quite easily scratches in the surface at the keyboard...you know the shiny part.
Jack, Montevina ULV will not see them at least untill July, can you wait so long? :)

You can get all the parts required to convert your black TZ to a white TZ on sony parts store for about $500 + ship + tax. Sadly it adds $0 to the resale value.

As far as I can tell, its only available in Japan on the built to order TZ91, a refresh from the initial TZ90 that added green and white color options. Japan is the only place where you can custom order the TZ.

Hey is great this green TZ :)

I am sure that is dark green. The only colour missing now is a dark blue, even if the premium carbon some times with certain light seems blue. My old TZ90 was premium, in the next I will consider also the green.

If is going to be July is great. :)
Montevina will be announced on May and untill we will see the ULV I suppose we will wait more...
Me too I hope that Sony will not change the TZ series and will put in the market a TZ with Montevina and SSD. It will be the perfect lappy! Then I will definitely pull the trigger.

Always speaking about this Montevina chipset. What is the deal with that? Does it really makes all this difference?

And how are you so sure that the next TZ will have this new chipset? They were saying the same about this TZ2 that will have the Santa Rosa. But no!

exetlaios would like a dark blue TZ, and I also would like to see such a beauty. But in addition, I would also like Sony to make a lighter blue one, a clear blue one. That is my dream, in addition to the white and Carbon Fiber black ones.

Isnt Montevina only for MID devices? If its too slow then i'll be more than happy with the current ULV.

These are the current Napa/Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo ULV processors.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

These are the upcoming Montevina processors.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

When the U7500 and U7600 processors first came out in April 2007, the TZ was announced in late May. The U7700 was released late December 2007, the TZ was refreshed with it late this January.

We should see the TZ or a new T series with these new processors later this year. I'm interested in the integrated X4500 graphics, Intel wants to make it three times more powerful than the current X3100 graphics! Ultraportables aren't gaming notebooks, but the more games they can play, the better!

I predict a Sony TZ3xx with the new Montevina chipset around July or August. The news from the Penryn processor are so good (less heat, increase power and battery life) that I can't wait to see ultraportables with these one's. :)
