    Hello NBR Readers

I order the brand new TZ91 with 48 SSD drive 2 weeks ago from Conics.net and it finally arrived. Since I am a student, I want to save money so I told Conics Japan to devalue the product so I don't have to suffer from the tax.

Today I got a call to pick up my TZ91 and Conics put $3100 US on the stupid box. I have to pay around $450 tax! I specifically told Conics to put $2000 on the stupid box.

Now I have my TZ sitting infront of me and I'm afraid to open it! I can't contact Conics cause its 4 AM in the morning.

Sigh, what should I do? What can I say?

    ANGRY!

Well, you'll have to talk to the guys and I don't know...send you a smaller bill or something. If they can do that...it would be cool anyway :).

What you're asking them to do is fraud...against the government...ever hear of what the IRS does to people who fudge taxes?

And guess who gets screwed if someone finds out that you saved money on the tax because the product was mis-valued? Conics.

So I don't think the company wants to get in trouble for fudging taxes just so you save some bux. Their not gonna put their ass on the line for you...

There's also the risk of if it gets damaged, you're out $1100 of value.

I once sold a rack-mount keyboard (music, not computer) module on eBay. The winner was somewhere in Asia. I insured it at actual value because I'm not taking the hit if it gets damaged in transport. He was a little miffed, but that's between him and his government. I mean, I wasn't shipping an express letter. It's clear I was sending something bigger than a breadbox.

Well the only reason I got TZ cause my T150 broke! :'(

Well the only reason I got it from Conics.net was they promise to write 2000 on the box, else I would have got it from Dynamism!

Conics don't exactly have the best warranty! And everyone on NBR agrees that Dynamism have good customer service. I still remember "FenderP" old post about the airplane seat accident (the one where the guy behind him slam his seat and crush his SZ LCD display.. right?). I know he got his SZ from Dynamism and how fast and efficient his laptop got fixed (which is something I really like).

Anyways I know its wrong to write the wrong value but at the same thing Conics somewhat made a "commitment". I think its more of a "credibility" issue than the $450.

The only reason I went to Conics was because someone on NBR Forums did something similar so I choose Conics > Dynamism.

Anywayz, I'm going to call them now and see what they can do about it.

Let us know what happens. I really want to see if a company will agree to deliberate tax fraud for a customer's benefit.

You tried to screw the government, and in turn, you got screwed. I think that's pretty fair. Lesson learned.

Even if he did, that would be like suing a fellow thief for not robbing the bank with you after he promised that he would do it.

All I read here is a lot of BS. First, living in the US is a lot cheaper than in Europe. Having to pay 600US in taxes is plain stupid, so shut your mouth if you're living in the US. It's also wrong to bring something in your luggage, but I don't see anyone here willing to pay for that.

Why is paying $600 in taxes any more, or less, stupid than paying an equivalent amount in rents/profits to an monopoly/oligopoly capitalist? Too many Americans (and an increasing number elsewhere) are fixed on this notion that Big Government is somehow different from Big Business, with the implication that price=value... Marx, anyone ;-)

Taxation in Europe is a lot higher than the one in other countries. VAT is a pain in the ass.

i got in a similar dilemma when i ordered my vaio from US. i am india and sz600 series has not arrived yet. i have to pay teaxes in US, customs in india but still got my laptop in about same price as top model sz 400 series available here. so dont bunk on taxes otherwise you will lose warranty and insurance benefits.

Insurance? I doubt that everyone has insurance on their laptop (I've heard that people in some countries have on almost anything, but still...). Warranty doesn't have anything to do with taxes. Even if you don't pay the right amount of taxes you still get warranty for your laptop. The only tax I have to pay is VAT, but it is 19% of the price and quite frankly it's not that great.
