    Hi

I have had my TZ for a year and 2 weeks ago the power button wont switch the laptop on, when i push it just wont turn on. (nothing to do with the battery). i sent the laptop to sony and they told me it would cost $900 to fix, so i said no way im going to pay that much. so i am now stuck with the TZ, is there an alternate way to put the laptop on??? What can i do??

You said power button is broken, but Sony wants to charge you $900 which means the problem is not power button. It could be motherboard.

Did you send your TZ in previously for the hinge recall? I did so in December, and a little over a month later the power button stopped working. When I called Sony, they said it would be repaired for free. I sent it in 10 days ago.

I have not heard from Sony, although I did call their service line to confirm that it had arrived at their facility. I sent this machine back twice before (cracked screen and hinge recall) and both times they were good about emailing me on status. Kind of worrisome that this time I'm not hearing from Sony.

    Good luck.

By happy coincidence I recevied my TZ back from Sony. Repair sheet only notes "parts replaced." No charge.

Try popping the hinge caps off and seeing what the problem is; although, it sounds like its a bigger issue than just the power button (why would a power button just stop working).

My TZ was out of warranty when I sent it in for the hinge recall. Whether Sony extended the warranty after that (as was rumored), or whether Sony knew that the hinge recall work messed up the motherboard is not clear.
