My TZ21 recently developed a fault with the lcd frame near the power connector. After doing some research I found the TZ series was subject to a product recall due to a fire hazard caused by overheating of power connector and lcd frame hinge.
After contacting sony they agreed to inspect the laptop for free, they collected the laptop a few days later. I received a phone call today from sony claiming the fault was not due to overheating caused by the power conector but due to the fact the the rubber feet were no longer on the laptop. The told be I must pay £60 for the inspection and £250+ for a repair.
I declined the repair they are now holding my laptop ransom!
Anyone else had similar issue dealing with there service centres?
Daniel

I'm sorry for what your going through right now. I bought my American Vaio TZ back in January 2008, found out about that global recall in September of that year. I never sent in mine for repair and its been going strong without any build-quality problems. I suppose I got lucky.
I find it ridiculous they won't even send the laptop back to you. -
File a complaint with your "BBB" equivalent in UK. They'll send it back to you....
Sorry to hear Sony's subs are being jerks... [or does SONY do the work themselves?]
