The TZ spec sheet states that the SD card slot is compatible with SDHC but not with high-speed data transfer rates. Has anyone tried a class 4 or class 6 SDHC card and were you able to achieve high transfer rates?

I'd like to know this before buying an SDHC card... Thanks!

I can't provide you with objective statistics, but they're slow for anything other than archival storage. I have an 8GB Transcend HDSC card.

Thanks, uber. It sounds like the spec sheet is correct and the TZ is incompatible with high transfer rates on these cards. I was hoping this wasn't the case but thanks for the info!

So, I guess there is no sense getting a class 4 or 6... Will use for archiving, as ubercool suggests.

I've Vaio FZ 190. When I use Sandisk extremeIII SDHC card, it was accessing at abt. 3.7 Mb/sec. Thats slow, but I read that Sony Vaio supports SDHC but not high speed, so it works at slower speed.

That's still faster than a class 2 (2MB/sec.)... although I assume an "extreme" card is probably class 6 (the fastest). Interesting. Thanks.

I think my my G11 has the same hardware. I tried a class 4 SDHC as a possible ReadyBoost device but Vista decided it was too slow. I'm unclear whether it's inherently slow hardware for the SD card slot or the interface was slowed down to reduce power consumption.

That's a good thought. I noticed in the power management options (for my TZ) that the card slots could be set to "performance, balanced or power-saving." I'll fiddle with those after I get my card. Thanks.

Just a quick reminder that people with SSD hard drives will not notice much of a difference when using expresscard SSD for readyboost. I currently have a 16gb Lexar expresscard SSD and the it has 4gb dedicated for readyboost. I can't say I've noticed a big difference, but the main reason I got it was for storage expansion in addition to my 48gb. Works great for watching videos and playing music. I make bittorrent dump all my downloads there instead of the main drive.

That's exactly why I am getting an SDHC card as well. Good to know this works for you. Would have gone with an express card if I had needed more space...

My system is so fast already that there is no need for readyboost, plus several studies I have read revealed that adding readyboost to an already functional PC did little to increase performance in some cases and actually decreased it in others.
