Having just ripped a dvd for use on my iPod on my SZ370, i was wondering how the TZ would perform.

i want to get a TZ195 figuring i am not a real power user and want the ultra portability.

but then i realized that video encoding (and to a lesser degree, audio) is very taxing on the processor. on my sz, i use close to 100%.

i can still surf the web and use other light applications with the video encoding going on.

but i remember in my T series, i would often crash the machine. so is the tx
with 1.2 ghz and 2 gb ram a reasonable performer for ripping?

Do you mean the TZ? I found review with some benchmarks, but the reviewer is using a TZ with the U7500 (1.06GHz). The U7600 (1.2GHz) will be slightly faster.

Yeah, that won't affect it's ability to rip a DVD though, so it should give a pretty good idea of what you can expect from the TZ195.

i would be getting the ssd on the TZ195.

thanks for the link to those measurements. i assume the ssd would improve many of those benchmarks.

i actually found interesting that one of the major headaches of Vista on the TZ is the extremely long boot times, but what i didnt realize is that maybe Vista's sleep functionality is actually better than XP...more like mac osX.
