I'm still doing my hours of system restore since my unit harddrive went down after my first install of sp1.
After I'm done installing the factory restore/removing bloatware/dloading updates from sony.com. And then I run the ms update, will it find the sp1 update there?

Thanks. thats the one I dloaded b4. and installed on two computers. Something went bad with laptop so I was going to let windows do the dload. Reason why, I heard the "full" version doesnt look to see if I updated all the drivers.SO I'm hoping if it was a driver issue, it can still dload from windows update if I tell it to manually to install.

Yeah, for some reason, I couldn't get Win Update to list SP1 RTM either, after I uninstalled SP1 RC1. So, I had to do the manual install. It worked great and I've had no issues. (All Win updates and Sony updates were installed prior to SP1.)

It's "available" for me on my Vista Business clean installed TZ150. I don't have all the drivers up to date either (such as the Intel GPU) and I have a few devices completely not installed on my computer that I don't care for such as the biometric fingerprint. It appears for me when I manually check for Windows Updates. Here's a pic in case anyone doesn't believe me or something (as silly as that may sound):

It WASN'T there when I checked this morning at 7AM (3/19/2008) so it looks like it appeared sometime today for my system. Others apparently have received the update yesterday, which makes sense considering that's when it is listed as being published.

Won't be updating now though; I'll wait a few days.

    Hope that helps.

Very interesting. I checked all day yesterday and then gave up and did the manual install. Maybe it would have appeared if I had waited. :)

Which tends to indicate MS Update thinks one of our drivers isn't compatible. They do list the fingerprint software and Intel graphics drivers as being possible culprits. I didn't take the time to check to see if we had the incompatible versions as I knew everything worked perfectly in SP1 Release Candidate, so I did the manual install and all is fine...

so did I. THe sp1 rel canadate. It was working but something went really bad when I installed the full sp1. I did uninstall the sp1 canadate, which went fine. Then I installed the sp1, which went ok. then I ran a defrag with diskeeper. Which went fine. Rebooted. major crash. couldnt load into windows. It got as far as the moving bar but then it'll auto reboot. Then it'll tell me it cannot load windows and to do a repair. repair failed. So I'm doing it from scratch. I think I loaded all the drivers that was required. I don't see any more updates on Sony's home page. Where can I get the most current fingerprint software from?

That's the way to go. It should hopefully work this time! Did you run a simple defrag or a disk check? It sounds like the latter, since a repair is being attempted... Whichever it is, that seems to be what caused the problem.

The updates from the Sony site should work. You can however get updates directly from the manufacturer (such as Intel for the graphics drivers). However, I have all the Sony support site updates installed and that's working well for me, so that's what I'd recommend.

hmm dunno why then. Its still not seeig the update. I did all of sony's updates.

All you did was click on the "windows update" button in your start menu, click on look for new updates, and then it found it,right? Oh btw, I see you have a tz195n, not a tz150. maybe theres an update that still left that I need to do.

I am so tempted to do the full sp1 install. But I would hate to redo the OS again as that takes a whole day of installing/uninstalling stuff.

No, no, I couldn't see SP1 in Win Update either, even after clicking "check for updates." I had to do the manual install.

Worked great for me but, as you say, if you had a problem last time, I would worry about it too. I guess you could try installing the latest updates from the manufacturers, to see if that allows Win Update to find SP1. Worth a try.

One thing you may want to try since, like me, you previously had the RC installed: uninstall the updates that allowed Win Update to find the RC. Unfortunately, I don't remember which those were but I remember I had to install a couple of updates and one specifically told Win Update to make SP1 RC1 available...

The instructions on the MS site don't say you need to uninstall those updates in order to get SP1 RTM but that's the only thing (other than drivers) I can think of that might be causing the update not to become available in Win Update.

As I've stated elsewhere, I did notice some improvements with SP1 RC1 and they appear to also apply to SP1 RTM: greater stability and slightly faster operation in day-to-day tasks--except boot-up, which is about 5 seconds slower than pre-SP1.

    I'm using a TX195.
    I updated the Realtek drivers.
    Updated biometric finger scanner.
    Updated Video graphics.
    Updated BIOS chip drive.

Still, no joy on the update.

    I'm sitting tight.
My system works find and I don't look forward to a full install.

by the way... what do you mean by "updated"

I clean installed my system 1 month ago and can't imagine there are newer drivers than the ones I used then... I don't see any new drivers at all in 08 for the tz.

    Using this web site,
    http://support.microsoft.com/KB/948343

I went to Realtek and confirmed the most recent drivers.
Intel has a new graphics driver for the 945 chipset, I believed released this month.

The biometric finger sensor on the Sony site is an older driver and it was updated using the UTEK web site.

The BIOS chip drive is listed as an optional update on the Sony VAIO web site.

You may have all the recent drivers, but I was merely confirming that all my drivers were the most recent ones that were available.

But, no auto SP1 update on my system.

^this is one of the more helpful posts I found on the forum regarding these issues. Kudos

I dont see anything on the sony site for the bios though... I have checked tz 130, 150, 160, and 170... Latest bios update is from 2007... well before sp1

wow! After updating the graphics chipset and the upek driver, I now have the sp1 showing up in my Windows update!

By the way, when I went to my sound driver, it said it was a MS driver, not a realtek driver...

    Hi,
    I have a TZ195 N,
The bios update I notes is from 7-25-07.
Most people have the correct Bios. It is noted as an update only for those who may have trouble getting the SP1 and the BIOS is out of date for some unknown reason
