I have had this already happen to me twice. One of the battery latch's catch, the spring loaded one (on the right if you're looking at the TZ from the bottom with battery at the top), has broken off.
Now the battery is just kept in place with the sliding catch on the left, but when I'm traveling the battery will frequently separate and shut the computer down, which is an extremely big pain in the ass.
I already had this happen to the extra-capacity battery, but since I was within 30 days, I simply returned it to SonyStyle and bought a new one.![]()
This time I don't have that luxury. Has anyone else have this happen to them? I simply can't believe that Sony can make such an unreliable way of attaching a battery.![]()

Yeah happened to me 2 days ago. Stupid airport security... dropped my laptop bag and even though my TZ is in the leather case and padded bag the clip still managed to break off!! Off course I didn't notice until after I left the airport...n
Anyways, purchased another one cos I couldn't find the clip and I hate that it is so loose in the chassis. I don't want it to rub and ruin the main body. All vaio accesories are damn expensive in Canda... $249 for standard and $349 for extended... in the US it's much cheaper.
Sigh... the piss weak clip is the only flaw with the TZ... and I'm sure one that will come to haunt all users no matter how careful they are... -
Anyone use the extended battery with their TZ? Does anyone know if it will still dock with the TZ docking station or will it not fit?
Last question... does it make it more awkward to use. alter the look with the raised back? -
Found part of my answer... but would appreciate real experience feedback with it

I find the laptop easier to work on with the raised back. The extended battery doesn't stick out much more in the back than the standard battery, it is mostly larger below the laptop. -
I agree the extended battery doesn't stick out that much more and besides the weight has no real disadvantages, except that it lasts 7+ hours on a plane, which is awesome!
Sorry to hear about your airport adventure, I'm sure mine also broke in the bag, come to think of it, since there's no rough handling at home.
TZ battery latch broke off, anyone else?
