I have just tried changing some settings in my TZ bios for the first time. I am amazed at how few settings are available... am i missing something.

I hit Esc on the keyboard when the Vaio sign come on screen, is there another menu available for (via hitting another key before the system boots up)

    thanks in advance

Yep, thats what you unfortunately get with a Vaio BIOS, they don't make the BIOS but they get rid of all the nice options like hardware virtualization. :(

Yup. rahulnirmal is right. Sony is pretty infamous for how much they lock down their BIOS. I'd heard that they were toying with the idea of making the BIOS of their VAIO Professional notebooks (BX, SZ and TZ) a little more open, but nothing ever came of it.

I really love their notebooks, their style, design, screens, etc. But then their poor customer service and support really puts a damper on things (also their expensive accessories). Its why I may consider going to Asus or another company for my next ultraportable when Montevina comes. :(

    I am impressed by Asus's recent 11.1" U2E series.

I REALLY don't want to go away from Sony, but I hope they change their ways and don't lock off any options, get better support. Most users who would use the advanced BIOS options these are experts and know what they are doing so there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to cut them off from features like Intel Virtualization Technology.

Yeah, me too I considering the Asus U2 but I don't see any review about the battery life. Pretty impressed that is a Santa Rosa ultraportable. Do you know if the battery life is as good as TZ?

Below is the battery life benchmarks. The U2E models come with both the 3 and 9 cell battery.

I cant believe anyone would ever consider buying an Asus laptop if they are concerned about battery life or customer service. Sony may suck on the service side but anyone who has had to deal with Asus UK will be able to tell you what they get up to, and its not pretty. I haven't had my Asus R1f tablet since he 7th of September (it never worked correctly since purchase in may'07) and I haven't received a refund of my €1670 even though they said they would credit my account. Asus UK only agreed to this after theft of laptop parts, delays, outright proven lies, denial of legal rights to name just a few things by Asus and their agents which actually amounted to criminal activity.

Honestly more important for anyone considering the Asus U2E should be this. Asus have a serious problem with battery wear across several models on their range. Despite it being very well known they have denied all knowledge for years, but they do know it is a serious problem as it has been admitted to me by Asus management (not the same liars as above) but their masters in Taiwan refuse to respond to their own employees concerns. The battery may start off ok but they tend to degrade fast and when out of warranty your screwed never mind not having use of your laptop while they replace the degrading 1st battery.

Honestly, steer clear of Asus if you want good product and service.
