Does anyone else find this on their TZs? I only noticed as I was cleaning the screen with compressed air and as I blew the dust from the bottom of the screen I noticed the plastic bezel edge rise from the actual LCD panel.... :(!

The crack is also noticeable when I am opening the screen from its closed position...

hmm... I dont have the crack or the lcd panel risen... maybe something happened to yours when the compressed air was pushed inside... or..? well I know now not to use the compressed air on there...

it's not the lcd panel risen or a crack on it, it's just that the plastic frame detaches slightly from the panel itself along the bottom when opening the screen...

anyone else have a TZ to confirm?

My frame does not detach from the LCD when opening it, or ever. That sounds like there's a lot of resistance opening your screen on its hinges, is that the case? That might explain such separation.

    well that's a little upsetting... i guess it's not a huge deal..
do you guys think it's worth complaining to dynamism about?

Mine also has that slight separation between the bezel and the screen by the Sony logo. I noticed it right out of the box because there was a small piece of dust sitting in there. Its not a huge deal and definitely does not warrant a return.

I guess you're right. I just wanted to be perfect. I also noticed a slight maybe 0.5cm line on th side of the outside cover, just seems like an imperfection during assembly.

The only problem I see with it is if I'm cleaning the screen with liquid and it gets inside since it's not entirely sealed. I guess I'll have to be more careful.. not that I wouldn't be anyway with this thing.

My separation starts about 2 cm in from both sides.

OK, one test... this maybe has got nothing to do with it..

but can anyone hold TZ flat, and top lid facing directly down? (i.e., holding laptop backward without holding the lid, just hold the case)

What happens? Does the lid falls down a bit? Mine does,,, Im not sure if this is supposed to be... I thought the lid are supposed to sort of 'clap in' but I dont think this is happening...

yup, mine does that as well. the hinge probably could be tighter, but i'm find it just fine...

I wouldn't advice letting your laptop sit upside down though..

No, the lid stays put where I leave it. There's plenty of friction in the hinges to keep it from moving.

ok, I am not too sure about cracks, but definitely, the lid 'does-not' stay where it is, if you hold it upside-down (lid facing down), and give swing up and down while holding the bottom frame, then you can see lid moves up and down, too..

obviously this doesnt happen if you hold the laptop with lid facing you, only when the lid is facing down...

I wouldn't worry too much, zerodays, unless you plan on holding your notebook upside down a lot.

zerodays, i guess our luck was a little bit worse than the rest...
it seems like the hinge is pretty solid when you close it, up to a point of about 2 cm, where there is barely any resistance and it just snaps shut. After the first time it snapped, I always put force on it so it closes gently.

The low resistance on the hinges just before it closes causes it to open slightly when held upside down..

i have a slight suspicion that mine is silly and has a few imperfections because of the way i wanted to customize it. I think that the bordeaux colour must be hand crafted, which means my laptop would have had to be hand assembled...

I held my notebook upside down and opened and closed and opened and closed... nothing.. it doesnt move at all its firm and very solid. I tried it upside down, sideways, normal way it stays solid still. Also no cracks here, ordered from conics black color.

I think that if you get one that didnt need any modifications it should be perfect. but if you ordered some strange configurations maybe they had to open it at dynamism or conics or something to change it, and there is where the problem lies.

I believe that it's sprayed on or something. I had a link to the process before, but I would have to go hunting on the VAIO Japan website to find it again.

Thanks guys for the input and support. I thought about it and although it still bothers me slightly, I'm sure that in a few days/weeks I won't mind it that much, especially since it's such a nice machine.

I'm finding performance in Vista better than expected as well. The memory usage in Vista is much more efficient than in XP. Memory is actually freed up when you close programs, unlike XP where it keeps hogging part of the resources. I think it's the way Vista handles, regulates, and blocks the opening and closing of applications.

As far as speed, I'm sure it's the SSD in mine doing the tricks. However, I can still appreciate the better memory management much more than switching to XP.

By the way, the Bordeaux finish is absolutely stunning. On certain angles and under certain light, it looks black with a tiny tint of red. At other angles it's a more subtle red. Looks amazing. Of course if you shine it under bright white light you can clearly see the colour. I would trade the slight imperfections for the color any day.

My N series has the same issue for some reason. on the bottom left side of my monitor there is a 1mm deep bulge where the bezel is separated from the lcd. From the looks of it the bezel itself is slightly too wide... causing it to bow versus the lcd staying flat. It looks like it was only attached using sticky tape. Does this warrant having it sent in for service? Sorta freaked out seeing as this is a brand new computer.
