My TZ cannot detect two 2gb SD cards I have, one is a 2gb card and another is a 2gb microSD card in an adaptor.
And yet it can detect a 64mb MMC card I have.

My dad's Vaio desktop cannot detect them either though my brother's custom build desktop can.

My TZ is downgraded to XP and using a SD driver from Sony Support. Whats going on? :(

Older SD readers can't read above 2gb maybe? Also can't read SDHC. I know I have the same problem on my desktop Vaio. Reads the 512mb fine but no go on 2gb.

I had a similar problem with a slot reading MMC but not SD. Device Manager could see a card in the slot but could figure out what it was. It turned out that the extra contact that SD uses wasn't connecting. I looked in the slot and saw that the contact was slightly bent out of line. Problem fixed with a small screwdriver.

Some readers up to about 2 years old will read SDHC provided you update the driver and install the right patch for Windows (which might now be included in the latest service packs). Here are some links for SDHC support (but SDHC is not the problem here).

These are just SD cards, not SDHC.
Even then, the new TZ should be able to read SDHD anyways.

I dunno what the problem could be, they also don't work in my dad's Vaio desktop, Vaios dislike SD cards since they compete with Sony's memory sticks?

I've had no problem reading SD or SDHC in my G11. However, that has two separate slots: One for SD and one for MS. These TZ specs don't even mention SD. Does Device Manager list an SD card reader? On my G11 this is under Disk Drives but on my Zepto is under SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller.

My TZ reads SD and SDHC. I've used up to 16gb capacity.

Scottyinco, are you using Vista or XP? If you are using XP, which driver did you
    download for the SD reader?

I downgraded to XP and downloaded Sony's drivers for the SD and MemoryStick reader separately. It reads memorysticks perfectly but not my SD cards.

When you download their XP drivers, they state that some functionality may be lost in XP but this is ridiculous. How can it not detect my 2gb SD cards but read my 64mb MMC?

I may have to go to Vista now. :(

I'm using Vista on my TZ too and have used SD cards up to 4gb and SDHC up to 8gb (tested).

Like John Ratsey suggested, I would try to download this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934428

It's a hotfix for SDHC, but it can't hurt... (make sure you've got an image of your system though!).

Also, I would try to format the card on a different machine, just to make sure it's not the SD card itself.

    Good luck!
