Here's my problem: I've got a VGN-TZ170N, running XP (although I had this problem while using vista as well).

I'll put the notebook into sleep mode, and all seems fine. Except, sometimes, when I try to power it back up, it's rebooting from the beginning, as if somehow the computer lost power or something. When I used to run vista, it would ask me if I wanted to start windows normally or safe mode options bc of this abrupt shut off.

Something else I noticed (may or may not be related) is that sometimes when trying to re-power up, the green power button would light up as if it were about to come out of sleep, then click off. then i'd hit it again, and it would restart as described above, asking about safe mode.

Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas how to fix?

Note: This has only happened once since switching over to XP last week from vista, so could it be related to vista wonkiness? Haven't been running XP long enough to know that it's gone for sure...

Sounds like your battery might be loose. If it gets disconnected, the system will of course power down. Is it connected securely? Are both clips on and working? The battery clips on the TZ are known to break ridiculously easily.

If you are certain the battery is working, connect to AC power and see if this ever happens. If it does, you'll probably need to contact support.

I'll confirm that its your loose battery that's causing the problem.

well both battery clickers are supposed locking the battery in, but I'll review it checking to see if they've broken, like you've suggested. Thanks.
