I have a couple of questions, search function seems not to work at the moment, so I'll just fire away.

1 Battery preservation. From my former laptops I know that the battery lasted a lot longer when I take it fully out the laptop whenever I am on normal power. Is this also the case for TZ?

2 Mouse. I've read some people saying that anything connected through USB eats up bandwith. in that case, does it matter how I connect my mouse? What is the best way: bluetooth/usb wireless/usb or...

3 I'd like to remove Intel and windows stickers from my laptop. Did anyone do this and is this easy to do? Last laptop I have damaged by taking of the stickers.

    Thanks in advance.

I think the newer li-ion batteries will last a lot as long as they are not drained constantly, just keep it fully charged, so i think you dont have to take it out every time youre on normal power..

about the mouse, i have no idea..

and i think you could do that with a credit card or some sort of plastic card so you dont damage the computer.. ive seen a friend do it but i havent taken the chance so i just leave the stickers there.

PhilFlow, if you want to REMOVE those special stickers without damaging anything, u need to use Hair-drier to do so. blow the hot air onto it for about 30sec+, then use a slim, shapr credit-card like to remove it nicely,

That is how I used to remove those 'void-f-removed' warranty thingy on my playstation2, and mod chipped myself and got it broken!, Then I put the sticker back and exchanged with new one ! :)

I use my BT mouse all the time, never noticed any problem, safe for Vista losing connection due to "security" reasons.

In terms of Manni's comment about throughput being affected, again I don't transfer movie files everyday, so it's a moot point.

Ok, maybe that's a moot point for you, but still valid in itself.

And what about powerconsumption, i think there is some small benefit in being able to shut down blue tooth.

Anyway, I am considering this becuase I'd like to buy a new mouse.

thanks but I'm not convinced by your argument.

For example: I have my Asus A6G for 2 years now. I consistently take the battery out. Afther 2 years I still get up to 4 hours out of the 6 cell battery. That exactly the same as 2 years ago. I think it would not be the same if I left it in.

What happens normally when you leave battery in: you charge it to 100%. The charge naturally lowers to 96% or so, and then it starts charging again. Result: many short charging cycles.

    Any more opinions on this?

I do think the TZ looks even better with battery, thats why i am asking.

Sony has the Battery Care software which you can run to keep the battery at a specific % charge to preserve battery life.

Yes, it helps if you always take it out. The ideal % remaining is 40%. If you ask me, that's a whole lot of hassle.

I think there's a thread about general notebook batteries care issues somewhere on the forums.

I agree with jc4ho. Generally the best way to preserve battery life is to keep it at arround 50% charged in a cool place. So in the notebook you have 2 problems. First, it gets fully charged and second it gets warm. The battery care software which is provided with the TZ is great to solve the first issue. I use the super care function which keeps it at 50% all the time. I have a link to the software on my desktop and I can easily disable the function and charge the battery to 100% everytime when I need to take the TZ with me.

I always wondered about that Battery Care Function software and now I know thanks to this post. I just turned it on to "maximum care" which keeps the battery around 50% as suggested here. Thanks for the tip guys! :)

    Interesting stuff guys.

Isn't it like this: The software keeps is it at 50%, after some time the charge naturally drops to 49%, the software charges it again to 50%. and thus making many short cycles, wich is not good for the battery?

Is there an option to disable all charging in the sony software?

The golden tip was the sharp credit card.

It turned out to be very easy with a credit card. somehow it was a lot easier than with my nails.

They just arrived from Shaggymac the kensigton security slot (it works just fine) and the laptop screen protector. Great products for not damaging this amazing screen :)

Yes. I asked PriceJapan to undervalue. They undervalued to 700 euros.
Netherlands has 19% VAT, just like EU i think.

    So 160 euros VAT.
