Hello, I own a Vaio TZ290 and I found that often times when I'm typing on MS Word, the typing cursor (i dunno exactly what it's called, but the blinking "|" line that indicates where you are in your typing) will randomly move somewhere else and mess up what I had previously typed, instead of typing a word.

For example, if I'm typing this sentence right now, all of a sudden the cursor will move to between the word "previously" in the paragraph above in the middle of another sentence and mess up my typing, so I have to fix the word that got messed up, then move my cursor back to where I was originally writing.

Is this something that is known or is something wrong with my keyboard or MS Word, or other?

    Thanks...

tomato123, thanks so much for writing this. I am experiencing the same myself, and have until now thought that the phenomenon you describe was due to my own misprints or coming to touch something on the keyboard by mistake, but I have had the suspicion for the time now that there IS something wrong with the TZ or the keyboard.

Sorry, as you see, I don't know what is causing this irritating and repeating error. But I want to confirm your description of the problem, and I hope someone has a solution to it.

My first guess is that you're accidentally brushing the touchpad. I do it all the time on my VAIO when typing. A fix would be to turn down the sensitivity of your touchpad. That could help.

How do I change my touchpad sensitivity? I can't seem to find the option to adjust it on any of my vaio or windows control settings... thanks again!

nixon, thanks also from me for the suggestion of the problem and the solution. But also I have problems with finding out how to reduce the touchpad sensitivity, so please tell us...

If this solves the problem, I would really be happy in my writing hours!

In Vista, go to the Mouse control, and open up the tab for the touchpad drive (it should have its own icon). I have a Synaptics touchpad, so in the Mouse panel, it is under the Device Settings tab.

I don't have access to a TZ at the moment, but I'll be able to check on Monday where exactly the touchpad settings are for you. Vista or XP BTW?

I dunno if it's the sensitivity... I've toggled it myself on my TZ240N and it happens to me all the time, too... and I often make sure that I don't accidentally brush the touchpad because I hate when it does that.

Isn't there an option to disable touchpad while typing?

several ways to reslove the issue

    1. go to control center --- keyboard and mouse --- Pointting device, to disable touchpad.

    2. use dell alps drivers that is much better than sony.
I currently use the dell alps driver that has much more fuctions that sony
especially, it has the function to disable touchpad when connecting an external usb mouse, that totally resolve the issue to me becaue I alwasys use a external usb mouse when using my z on a table. the mouse has a retractable cord, I love it because I feel it is much stable that wireless mouse.

the dell alps driver is for both xp and vista. here is the link,

    http://ftp.us.dell.com/input/DELL_TOUCHPAD----POINTING-ST_A08_R202446.exe

here is dell synapticspad driver, I did not try this becuase my z has alps one. but I believe it has the similar function.

    http://down9b.zol.com.cn/caf5e9ba8e.../484375fc/bijiben/1/dell_synapticspad_a16.exe

    3. you also can disable the touchpade in the dell version alps' control panel, i forget whether sony version has that option.

    4. if you use xp, you can go to C:\Program Files\Sony\Setting Utility Series under which there is a VCCPointingDevice.exe, a executable file, double click it you will find a option to disable the touchpad, you could creat a shortcut to desktop so that you can use it more conveniently. to enable it back, double click the same one, tick the Enable checkbox.

I just cannot find it under Vista. you guys can try it. this is the fastest way to disable the touchpad if you do not want to use a external usb mouse.

    Good luck

Let's not forget this issue. For me, it's not a good solution to disable the touchpad. But perhaps making it less sensitive is a solution?

Despite Christmas time I have given the TZ keyboard and touchpad a few tries, and I am NOT sure that the problem is connected to the touchmad. I will try more, but until now it seems to be a problem that is not easy to spot/localize, and it IS really annoying, and it is a real problem that the cursor in MS Word documents makes such strange moves.

I also have this problem with my TZ150. The cursor will "click" inadvertently where the current mouse position is on the screen, causing the cursor to move there and have me start typing in a completely different part. I used to have a TZ160 for a month prior to getting my TZ150, and it never had the problem...but it's not a deal-breaker for me.

I had similar problems on my TXN15,

I recently added the New Alps drivers from Dell and am much happier.

Plus I get back the scrolling features I used to have with my old Inspirion.

I (love)^2 my TX but the OEM Sony touchpad drivers sucked !!!!

Hi my asus laptop used to have this issue. its VERY annoying. Ive researched all over the net about this problem and the only suggestion that has actually truley worked is a free program that runs in the background called touchfreeze. if you google touchfreeze it will be one of the first hits i believe.

it will solve your problem. best regards
