Well this is a bummer!
Less than 24 hours ago, I backed my TZ130 up to my desktop system at home. This morning, I can't get it to power on at all. I press the power switch but nothing happens. I plug the charger in but no light come on the TZ indicating that it is charging. Drag!
I've helped Sony sell many T series laptops over the last few year, and I've owned a TR1, T340P and now this TZ130. This latest notebook seems snakebit, though. A little over a year ago I broke the screen in some way that I still don't know ($700 repair). I had to send the notebook back for the hinge/wiring inspection, and now this. Very disappointing.
Well, time to pull the trusty TR1 off the shelf, update the software, and install the backup that I did yesterday.

So because of this laptop breaking down you are going to quite buying sony laptops?
It is probably some kind of hardware failure but that IMO is not reason to stop using sony. Every single laptop dies. Some earlier than others.
That's why there are warranties
I am a dell fan. If one of my dells broke down, I wouldn't stop buying dell.
I would use my warranty or just get a new dell. -
Yeah ... sometimes you just get a bad one. It happens. Every single one of my Sony laptops over the years has developed a problem with normal wear and tear. One of the RAIDed drives in my Z90NS just failed, but I'm not blaming Sony for that. I have a warranty, they'll fix it.

My TZ190 is still purring like a kitten after over 1.5 yrs of use. Best laptop (PC for that matter) ive ever owned; it does have some hiccups though, like that Intel wifi card. Anyways, this doesnt help you, but, not sure what else to say.

Frustration, i feel you. the reality is all companies have lemons. my sister macbook had two g keys and two up volume buttons. my dell XPS harddrive failed 3 hours after warranty expired. my old gateway from back in the day, when my dad bought it, he had 2 5gb hd put in. i never knew. when the first 5gb got full we bought another harddrive. opened the case the other 5gb was never plugged in. i was confused looked at the receipt what do u know 2 5gb cavier drives listed on the invoice. went two years without even knowing that. Gateway never plugged it it. that was on our pentium pro 200mhz, way back when. 200mhz dual processors and two 5gb wd cavier drives, 20 inch CRT. I think the desktop was over 6000 dollars new, now u can buy one400x faster for 500 bucks. ahh h memories

If your credit card has warranty service you may be able to get this fixed for free (considering that TZ has not been out for 2 years yet). Ofcourse you should always purchase high end products on one of these cards just in case.

I'm feeling a little better now that I've updated Ubuntu on my old TR1 and moved all my data to it.
I'm not down on Sony as a whole, since my TR1 is still running and ready to step in as my production laptop after all these seven or eight years. My wife's T340 is runs without a hitch. I just have not seen that level of reliability from my TZ and am tired of shipping boxes to Sony.

I have the same model and yours probably died due to the reason they are being recalled, faulty wiring in the hinge of the notebook. Did you send yours for the free repair or not? I wonder when mine will bite the dust?

Staffy:
Check your DC voltage at the power brick. Maybe it is dead or shorted some where, and your battery is dead as well. -
My TZ91 is still running fine after a year and a bit. My guess is you fried your motherboard because that is exactly what happen to my T series. I did send it back to rewired and everything been been working very smoothly.
My T150 on the other hand die multiple times. Fried motherboard and LCD flickering. My lastest problem is the fan completely stop working so I have to use it with a laptop cooler. -
Yes, I sent it in for the hinge repair a few months ago.
