 Yes...you can custom order a TZ without crapware and it will only cost you $50 extra!!

Actually if you don't take a couple of the craplets, it appears as though, you "only" have to pay $25.

What a customer-centric company Sony is.

While I agree this isn't the most customer-friendly way to offer a bloatware-free computer, we all know manufacturers get very well paid to include all the junk we don't want... so this isn't completely illogical.

I'm just happy to see Sony offering such an option! Good find.

Just noticed something, when you select that option, there is then about $25 worth in default software that is subtracted, so the $50 fee really amounts to $25...

The question is how do they remove the bloatware? Do they just uninstall it and then manually clean some traces in the registry or harddrive; or do they start all over by installing the OS and necessary drivers and utilities?

I still prefer installing my own copy of the OS and then just the drivers and utilities I need. That will ensure 100% perfect clean install without any trace of junk whatsoever!

as i get closer to buying a TZ, i now notice on CDW that these models have Vista Business installed, but also include "xp downgrade disk in box."

any idea what that is? i thought the downgrade presents issues with reinstalling drivers, etc. or is this something new?

Yea also is the recovery partition bloatware free too? Thus allowing us to wipe and recover the laptop whenever we want, bloatware free?

The Fresh Start trademark, lol! You have a choice for a Fresh Start or No Fresh start.
