I was wondering if there's any difference between these two ? Or is it just that TZ90 is for japanese market and TZ12VN for US/European ?

The TZ90 is Japan only and is very customizable unlike American/Euro models. With all Euro/American models, they are all prebuilt models. But with the TZ90, it is built to order from SonyStyle Japan which I wish they offered outside of Japan. For example outside Japan, if you want the Premium Carbon lid color, your stuck to get the most expensive option with the SSD drive and vice versa but not so in Japan.

You also can choose to have a 160gb hard drive in place of the DVD drive and a Celeron M processor, options only available in Japan.

The TZ12VN is a European model and top of the range, with 2gb ram, 32gb SSD, etc.

I think that at the moment, all TZ machines are made in Japan. Thus, it is easy for Sony to configure it for you if you're in Japan, but for other markets, it's simply more economical for them to ship precustomized models in bulk. Though, nothing is stopping them from creating a service at a premium for customized special orders...
