Well I attempted the clean install today but still cant get it right. I installed all the drivers on the sony support site and still have one exclamation mark in my device manager called xgv and av controls dont work, anyone have any idea what I did wrong. This is what i did

1 - installed a fresh copy of window vista business
2 - installed all ORIGINAL drivers from the sony support website

Is there a certain order I should do it in?

And i read on another thread sony support UK has drivers/utilites package would that work on my US TZ? After downloading the packs it looks like the UK site has more driver support such as the av mode functions that I was missing.

Im really thinking of buying one of those p1 recovery disk, how are those disk from P1?, does everything function properly?

I Counted 21 drivers/utilites on the US site and 34 on the UK site. I would assume both models would have the same features, but whats with the extra 13 drivers?

Chipset drivers should be installed first. I don't think it matters much after that in what order the drivers are installed.

Can't answer the Sony speciific questions - I don't own a Sony. However, you can download drivers from manufacturer's sties.

i'm just did a clean install of windows vista ultimate on my tz. Seems like there is one unrecognized device showing up on device manager and i don't know what it is. SD/MS Card Readers are working, BT is fine, Camera works, Wi-Fi works, seems like all ports on the computer are working. I dunno what that one thing could be. And I also have a few things i need sorted out: My FN keys do not work, my A/V keys don't work, and I need that little piece of software that shuts power off from the CD/DVD drive when the computer is in battery mode (anyone know what i'm talking about?). Help would be appreciated.

Oh, and for my drivers, I started with the UK ones, and most of them work. Some of the UK drivers I didn't know how to install b/c Vista could not use the file type, so I just used the drivers from the US site.

If you have Sony Vista Recovery DVD (not retail copy of Vista), you could try to install the driver from device manager and let it search your DVD.

i just had a chat with sony support, they told me to install sony shared library before installing any drivers. Apparently "sony shared library provides compatibility of the drivers with the retail version of the operating system." I'm gonna give this a try today...

sigh, looks like another fresh install for me...

ok i just did another clean install, installed sony shared library before installing any other drivers, and then did a windows vista update. when you are updating, make sure u download and install "Sony Corporation driver update for Sony Notebook Control Device." It should appear in your Vista Update window. After Vista downloaded and installed all the updates and restarted, I had the laptop working exactly as it did when I first got it, minus all the crapware :) Yes, all A/V and FN keys work!
