Ok, I did it. Startup is about 30seconds longer. But people did say it erases the way windows optimizes my startup.

I dont seem to see any added battery life. still reads about the same. Then again, I'm not running any specific test just looking at the battery indicator for now. BTW, I had SP1 beta. Had to uninstall that one first and put this one on. So I guess me not seeing things is a good thing as that means the beta was pretty close to final.

its toast. damnit. I dont know it if the the sp1 or the defrag that did it. Now to spend another few HOURS of doing a system restore.

I did a clean install with Vista Integrated with SP1 - no problems here on a TZ130.

No problems on a TZ170N/B yet. There were two optional updates on vista update, Intel wireless wifi link 4965 AGN and Intel 945 chipset. Should I install these updates? Pros/cons? Thxs.

It was diskeeper. I installed sp1 on my other laptop. was working fine for a day of rebooting. So I did a disk defrag. After it was done, thats when it failed to startup.

Diskeeper tends to munge the boot settings when doing an offline pass.

Vista's startup repair will fix your boot problem, no reinstall needed. I've done it more times than I'm comfortable admitting.

Mine didn't fix it. once I run the repair, after about 10-30mins it reboots the notebook. Instead of rebooting every time it gets the logon screen, I get a black screen and a cursor. But then the HD stops accessing.
Being I was dumb enough to try it on my main notebook (non sony, but with sp1) it also crashed the same way. Weird part is after I reinstalled everything, and SAVED it, I could do a boot-time defrag without issues. go figure. But I'm 90% sure it was diskeeper touching the MFT.

It may take two or more repair cycles to fix it. Run it until it says there are no issues found.
