Recently I bought the VGN-TZ17GN. I tried Vista for one week and decided like many others that I had to downgrade it to Windows XP. I am actually very happy with it now except for the fact that often it fails to standby/shutdown. It will simply show me the blue standby/shutdown screen, but does not turn off the notebook. I have to do it manually. Any ideas?

As I am trying to resolve the same problem, here are my remarks:

The driver on ftp vaio link causes this issue. (if I disable the camera, everything works fine)

There is hotfix KB909667 which occupies with this. But it works really weird, once it works, then only shut down is working, then only hibernate etc (but I dont say that its not only my xp installation issue).

In KB909667 there is mentioned that it is caused by turning off USB camera when not used, and you can disable this feature in properities in device manager on camera properities tab - power management. I dont have it there..

So i disabled camera (i dont need it now) and Im happy ;)
