So my screen broke on the TZ90. I ordered part #A1289824A, which apparantly doesn't fit the TZ90 (connectors don't match according to the shop that was doing the work for me).

Does anyone the correct part number? Are the US and Japanese models using different screens? Do I need to take it to a different shop?

This whole situation has made me sad, so any help is appreciated.

I've been hearing several stories of LCDs breaking on the TZ here recently, very disturbing. Hope mine doesn't share a similar fate. :( :(

it really is a fragile screen... all they need to do is insert a VERY thin sheet of hardened material on the back of the screen and it'd be fine

Mind I ask how you broke your LCD? That way I know what not to do '.'

I honestly don't know how - someone probably stepped on it.

Wow, so many broken LCD's lately.

Is it so bad the built-quality? I mean this is big issue if it is so fragile, because the TZ is made for carrying it with you in the road, not for living it home. If get's broken so easily...is it worth the premium?

it is well built little notebook, especially considering the size and weight. but you need to treat kindly because of the size. if they made it 2 lbs heavier, it would be more durable, of course. my advice is to carry it in a sturdy bag by itself (or sleeve), and always put a piece of cloth between the keyboard & lcd when you close it. don't put it in a bag where it will get pressure to the screen.

also, be gentle when you open and close the lcd, always lift from the center of the lcd, as the thin panel has a lot of flex.

in summary, treat it like the $2000 machine that it is.

$2000? I paid over $3000 for mine. I keep mine in its leather case inside my briefcase, which gets thrown around a lot (I travel a lot). So far so good . . .

Where exactly did you order it from? I've been looking everywhere for a replacement for a TZ21 (same part number) and nobody seems to have it on stock.

    Thanks
