Brand new VAIO series, coming this spring! :)

Update: can pretty much confirm this is the new C series.

I like how they bring back the old style VAIO (etched in with no insert) logo and making only the rim shine (not sure that's edited or if there is anything special there). It looks really nice with the brushed metal.

I see, what is an ETA? april, may?

I will have to check the FCC again, they have one more model, AK8PCG11312L but it could just be a variant of the 11.6 inch model.

btw do you have any info on the one I posted? is it the Y series replacement?

This one has nothing to do with Z series, more like C series successor. i know, it's lame. Sony better hurry up with the ultrabook, or they can kiss goodbye to their market share.

i don't have any info on the 11" you posted. i remeber Y series used to have Intel version, so this could be the Y series ultrabook.

I see, the one I posted has no optical drive, so either it is an ultrabook or something else.

Interesting, any idea if this will be shipping with ivybridge or still sandy bridge?

I am guessing the S series will not be receiving a design make over any time soon huh?

i'm not sure about that. there are 4 USB ports, only 2 of them are USB3.0. Ivy bridge fully supports USB3.0, shouldn't they all be 3.0 if that's the case?

Well, if we talk about some new series, not VPC-CA4 (refresh of current CA), this must be a principal upgrade, that is, Ivy Bridge on. C series is a budget-minded one, no surprise if we'll have the same ugly display and a couple of cheaper USB2.0. Yet there might have been another explanation: we all heard that Ivy shipments put on hold until June, and Sandy could be a temporary substitution in this case.

The current C also has a soft edge on it, so this might just be a continuation of the design.

The different colours are interesting, the black and silver version is actually looking not bad in this form.

When is sony planning on announcing these? Will other models be announced along side the new C?

I agree the black and silver caught my attention... sadly my Z's beat up enough that it's not worth it to sell it, and it's still to early for an upgrade. Curses!

The E-series is their "budget" line, though. I wouldn't expect them to use a higher res screen in it...

The old C series 14" had a 900p option, so i'm sure that'll be an option too. We won't know til it actually comes out and ready to order though...

It's the same as all other vendors in the entry level segment, if they change the screens to high resolution models the price needs to go up (higher material costs). If they do that, you complain they are too expensive. You cant have it both ;)

This is the case it seems, was in an large electronics store a few days back and 80-90% of the laptops were 1366x768, with a few at 1600x900 and maybe 1 or 2 at 1920x1080.

I just hope the ultrabook from sony has at least 1600x900 and is of better quality than the SA.

there are still 2 more not released, are they gonna call them E 14 limited edition or something? Could still be the new C series.

I just hope these buttonless touch pads aren't terrible. I've yet to see an Apple-imitation buttonless touch pad that was any good. They're all stiff and unresponsive. Hopefully Sony's made some kind of improvement...

Stiff? Can't see why that would be a problem as smartphones are 100% stiff without any complaint from the users ;)
Instead of imitating the already flawed Apple design it would be better to just use a vibration motor as feedback instead, in that manner one could get different feedback from different gestures/taps. Or no tactile feedback at all if one (like me) don't need it.

haptic feedback like on cell phones for the buttons could be an interesting idea with the ability to turn it on/off and modify the intensity like on cell phone.

btw when is this new E/C series coming? the press release was not very specific on a date of release.

    SVE14A16FGH - is Ivy Bridge = third gen i7

    SVE14A15FGW (white model) - sandy bridge i5

but both are running on the new HM76 Express Chipset.

the difference in price gives you Ivy bridge, 750 GB drive, intel HD 4000 and that appears to be it, oh colour of course.

And it weights 2.27 kg (5.00 pounds), which I think is not stellar but still pretty good for a 14' quad-core laptop. I wasn't expecting being interested in this new E series but the technical specs look really good!
