After finally getting past the notion that I could travel safely with a Z2 without a protective case, I decided to order a carbon fiber case from Mach 3. The case was more than I wanted to spend but no one else made a seriously protective case shaped specifically for the Z2. Also, I thought a notebook as cool as the Z2 should have a similarly cool case. http://www.mach3composites.com/carbon-fiber-sony-vaio-z-case.html

Summary of the story to date. I ordered the Mach 3 case with the website saying that delivery would be in 2-3 weeks which happened to be enough time for my next trip. Before the end of the expected time, I received an email from the company owner explaining that there was a delay due to factors out of their control (that’s my summary, the information I received was far more detailed). I was offered the following option: an earlier version/prototype carbon fiber case that would fit the Z2 would be sent immediately. The case I order would be sent as soon as possible. The carbon fiber case that was being sent was mine to keep for free, including shipping. In short, to make up for an unforeseeable delay caused by a third-party, I was offered a free case. This offer was made without any complaint being made or any due by date passing. I accepted.

The earlier version of the case arrived as promised and before the trip. It’s a really neat little case, it weighs next to nothing. Being carbon fiber, it flexes. I think the final version has a hard shell coating but this one shows no sign of weakness and is really light. It was great to travel with. I can see where the new model’s closer fit might be desirable although I didn’t have any problems with my “temp” case. The new model’s zipper should be a significant improvement over the current latches. I recently received an update letter from Mach 3 so that I know what’s going on.

I’ve heard rumors of the occasional customer service complaint being recorded on this forum. I thought I would post a real-life instance of what truly great customer service can be. It turned me into a fan of the company.

I’ll post a review of the final product here when received.

I've had a great experience with Mach3 as well. Ordered their original 12" in case that happened the Z1. It's kept my Z1 in excellent shape with little worry on my part.

I did have a problem with the latches and Kevin (Mach3 owner) responded to my email within minutes and mailed me 4 extras that same day.

I've emailed him with questions about the Z2/3 case as well, always an immediate response. I look forward to your review Louche, as I have also not found an alternative to the TAC1 case.

Have you received the final product? Could you post a review for TAC1 case for the Z2?
