HI ,
my SONY VAIO -VGN-B3VP-get dead. I just turn it on and get frozen in the
middle of windows and than I did try to rebut it - no result.
What i did to try after the happening,-I did change the RAM -no result,
take down the battery -only on charger -no result,i have measure the
voltaige -exactly 16 v.
Actually I think is something involve the BIOS ?
I will be so pleased if, some one help me to fix the problem .![]()

Remove battery, remove BIOS battery (if you can), remove charger.
Hold the power button on the laptop for two times 30 seconds ( YES, without any power connected), plug in BIOS battery and charger (nothing else) then try to BOOT.
Happends quite alot to desktops and laptops, and a reset often works. BUt, this seems to be a bit OUT of reach. But, worth a shot. I mean, you've actually changed RAM an stuff, which my customers never are supposed to do themselves.
Give it a shot, lets keep our fingers crossed. -
So does it always die after it boots to windows or before? Or does it never boot anymore (no power, black screen)? Are there any sounds when you press the power button?
-
Hi ,
This is the first time happening and when I try to start it -get start some a several times but in the a few seconds get frozen .
When does not start -there is no sound no BIOS just the LCD -s of the start button is on and you can hear the spin of the hard driver -nothing else .
Any way I will try to take off the BIOS battery and to execute
the advice of Daelyn. -
Actually where is the BIOS battery ,I am afraid ,I can`t reach it ?
Possibly I have to open all bolts ? -
It's difficult to say what is wrong from your description.
My first guess is that the thermo paste on the CPU isn't working properly and you need to clean and re-apply some more.
It could be many things but I have a gut feeling it's the CPU isn't being cooled properly. The last five notebooks I fixed had the same symptoms and all I did was re-apply the CPU paste. -
The Fan of the processor is clean but does not spin when the power is on -is is spin wen start just game ?!I thought is probably is right?
Now I disjoint every screw and reach the mother board ,but I thing the battery
of the BIOS is solderd on it . -
This reset thing has about 0.1% chance to work on computers suffering from BOOT problems (fails during windows loading etc), but about 90% chance to work on computers suffering from POST issues (before attempt to BOOT into OS/CD etc). Why do I know? I work at Dixons support, so, many of these calls every day. Laptops and stationary.
Try the reset as I described it, if not working, well, we'll have to consult our other friends here. I just orderd my SZ4VWN/X from SonyStyle and it will most likley come on friday. Then I will dive into the VAIO world of pleasure. -
"The Fan of the processor is clean but does not spin when the power is on -is is spin wen start just game ?!I thought is probably is right?"...
You cannot tell by just looking at the fan and the heatsink. You have to look at the paste between them. Once again, I have a strong feeling you need to change the paste between the heatsink and CPU, ESPECIALLY with older notebooks. When you turn a notebook on with a bad paste problem it will cut off very quickly, the fan and HDD will spin but stop after a few seconds because the CPU heats very quickly.
Of course I could be all wrong (^_^) -
After a few days of wondering what the hell is wrong with my vaio, we have given up and it will be going to Sony. Hopefully they can figure out what has gone wrong and replace it.
The fact that the laptop has started sometimes (2 out of ~40) and the fact that the hd and cd are powered leads me to think its the internal power unit. We opened the case, took it apart piece by piece and did not see a part that looks remotely to a power unit. We took the battery out but that didnt change anything. Again, if it starts fine sometimes, it would mean its something basic such as memory or cpu. We took out the additional memory (512), didnt change anything. Cant really tell with the cpu because it is normal for the fan not to start spinning for 5 minutes after boot.
Anyway, enough vaio for me, im going for a macbook as my next laptop -
Hi, My CD drive on my sony has stopped working and im having some issues taking it apart, sounds like you managed it, so any advice?
