Just returned from chicago. In the airport, the man need me to bring out the SZ270 carbon fiber face laptop out from the bag and put it into a plastic case to pass the safety check.

After I back home, I can see a lot of scratches at the carbon fiber face. This is from the plastic case. I think the carbon fiber is less scratch free than magnesium case.

Agreed ...My 2 yr old got hold of mine one day...dont know what he did..probably placed something on the top...and scratched the top...quite deep actually.
So I would agree...this carbon fibre is actually quite a soft material.

Wow...now I'm really glad I didn't get the carbon fiber. My magnesium one doesn't seem to get scratched at all...

That's why I never put my notebooks lid down in those plastic bins. The bottom is plastic and has little rubber feet for a reason ;)

You can keep your notebook in your Sony neoprene slip cover while it is in the bin. I have never had to take my out ov the noprene suit. That is what it is for is simply scratch protection. It certainly is not impact protection.

I fly every week. The carbon fiber never gets scratched - I put it in lid up, not down so the bottom of the laptop is on the plastic.

Yeah, just put the laptop down where you usually do (bottom down, lid up) & it will not be a problem. The few times I fly, I was also asked to take off my laptop from my bag & laptop sleeve as well.... it seems that security check points here in the US are all generally that strict. In other countries, I don't even have to take the laptop out of the bag or the sleeve when I pass through the checkpoints....

my roommate and I both have SZs with carbon lids...his is the SZ91S with the angled weave pattern and mine's the US version (silver sparkles)...anyway we put some 3M clear protective film on them...and not even a ball point pen will penetrate =]. oh and it just looks normal with a gloss finish on it!

    Different strokes for different folks.

I for one would rather have a few scratches but also have a thinner, lighter, much brighter, better image quality and better color fidelity LED screen.

Then again I bought my SZ laptop for work, not as a fashion accessory for show.

VietNinjaXTC, I thought the silver sparkles where only on the models which are not carbon fiber, but rather magnesium. I have both a SZ110 and TX650, and my TX650 is carbon fiber while my SZ110 is not. The material on my TX doesn't "sparkle" while the one on my SZ110 does.

Neat! Where did you get this 3M Clear Protective Film? Sounds like a worthwhile investment. Did you put it on your screen as well?

Somehow both Office Depot and Max don't carry 3M Clear Protective Film.

I did buy two 12"x12" sheets from xpel and they are being shipped to me right now. I'm not sure I know how to apply it properly (i.e. without bubbles)... Any suggestions?

Can you please tell us where you got the 3M protective film for the top of the lid? I've seen the 3M privacy filters and screen protectors at Office Depot, OfficeMax, CompUSA, Best Buy, etc., but I have never seen a 3M protective film for the top of laptop lids.

I have a SZ120P and have what looks like scuffs on the lid. I got most of them from sliding the machine into the Sony Hard Case with the magnetic closure.
After further research I have the standard Black lid that looks like sandpaper.
No matter what I do I cannot get them to go away. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
