I'm sure there's a hack to get around it, though I don't know where to find it. From your other post you said you're in the UK, so I assume you want to use a local carrier there.

There are instructions for unlocking the EDGE card in the computer on Sony's Support website ( http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-faq.pl?mdl=VGNT350). Click on the first FAQ ("How to unlock the SIM module.") You'll have to follow the instructions and call Sony Support via the 800 number. Best of luck!

No, there's no other way to do this. Everyone who wants to unlock MUST call Sony. It's very simple and they will guide you step by step. Just remember you don't tell them you are in another country.

Actually, I think it's even better if you say you're in another country. I unlocked the SIM card of a TX notebook from a friend of mine very easily. I am from Brazil and called Sony through Skype. The operator asked me to register with Sony support (my info and the computer model and serial number). Then, he asked why I wanted to unlock the SIM card. I told him there is no Cingular here in Brazil and the EDGE modem would be useless otherwise (how can they say no to that?). He then guided me into typing a few commands in Hyper Terminal and the modem was unlocked.

According to a few other UX users, the Sony tech actually told them due to their company policy they are not allowed to provide the code to people outside of the US.
