How to do clean installs on the FW?

Hey everyone, I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread for people who want there FW’s running smooth! My second FW is on its way after the first one had problems. I would like to know how to do a clean install before it gets here. I am going to install a Scorpio Black drive in to my FW, so I want my system to use it as efficiently as it can. This sort of performance calls for a clean install, but it would help if I knew how to do it! I would be sure there are many other people in this position so I thought I would start a New thread.

I have a few questions I would like to ask to gain better knowledge in to how to do a clean install!

    1. The FW doesn’t come with any windows boot disks! This means than you have to burn from recovery manager, and the disks burnt still contain all of the crap ware.
    2. Because of this I don’t know where to get a clean copy of vista from? Which I can use from boot on a DVD!
    3. Where do u find the drivers? and once you have installed the clean version of windows – drivers, what order would they be install in for the FW ?

There are other such guides on notebookreview and the internet like the half clean install or something  This works by opening task manager during recovery manager is working. You then have to end all of the tasks installing software you don’t want on your computer, this just sounds dodgy. I’m not sure that this process is the best way to remove all of the crapware. I would rather do a clean install!

Can anybody help please, any comments will help immensely, thanks. To be honest im still a bit of a newb with computers compared to u lot

If only there was a way to get the drivers off Sony's support website to work with a clean install. The way I see it there are a couple of possibilities:

1.) Somehow manage to create a clean install disk from the recovery partitions .sny files. This install would retain all the information necessary to allow the drivers and apps on sony support to install.

2.) Find the files that tell the apps from sony supports website that they are indeed on a real Vaio FW, back them up, then format and copy them to their proper locations.

    hmmmmmm.....

My Concern about going the Ultimate 64 bit route is how all of my software will play with it, if at all.

Relatedly, I did a semi-clean install per the instructions provided in the sticky thread within the sony forum here. I think it was mostly successful but my partition is still too large.

Anyway, I hope to hear more about both issues

    Ooooo!!
im looking forward to a clean install as well. i've cleaned up my system...for the most part XD
but i still get some odd slowdown during the initial boot sequence.
i check the performance levels and i always see the cpu being used at like 20%+
but looking at the tasks the numbers on the CPU dont add up.
i dont know too much about computers so is it possible that there are hidden programs being ran that i cant see?

also, is rocketdock and sidebar a resource hog?

anyhow, thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge

Wow that would be great! I was beginning to think that this would be an impossible mission! I am sure that this will be a great addition to the Sony forum. This will insure our Sony’s are running sweet!

Make sure to include how we will be able to find a clean version of windows. My Sony doesn’t come with the windows boot disk, and I don’t know if yours does? This boot disk should normally be bloatware free, but because I wouldn’t know where to find a clean version of windows from! Unless you can get it of the Microsoft site or something

The clean install you are talking about will be possible for 32 bit version! I wonder now if I should think about 64 bit! hmmm! What are the advantages and would there be any problems running it on the Sony. Would there be problems with compatibility and such, and things just not fitting to the screen or something ! Bit of A newb as I said!! But this would mean I could use all of my 4 gigs of ram!

Why don't you guys uninstall each crapware? Would not this take less than an hour? Would not this be easy? I cannot understand why people are so much bothered with installing Vista again instead of uninstalling the crapware.
