I have a Sony VGN250N notebook. I'm tempted to just delete most of the VAIO software. Most of it looks like unnecessary stuff I'd never use like the AOL Video and the VAIO entertainment.
But before I start uninstalling all the VAIO and other 'junk', what do other users love and use about the VAIO package? What should I keep and what is truly considered junk to others?
Also, I bought mine at BestBuy and for a fee the Geek Squad offered to optimize the machine by eliminating unnecessary software and some 30,000 lines of code. I said no to the Geek Squad, but now I'm wondering if I should have let them do it. Is there a software package I can buy cheaply that can optimize the machine for less money than the $59 that the Geek Squad wanted. My notebook isn't really slow, but I like the idea of optimizing.
Thank you.

This thread is super-helpful for optimizing any notebook, VAIOs included. Best of all, you don't need software, you don't need to pay anyone, and you'll be all set for future bloatware hunting!
..of course, I'm still running XP, so I can't speak for differences between it and Vista in regards to optimization. -
Thanks for that great thread about optimizing a PC. That will be very useful.
The VAIO comes with several entertainment/media programs...Rhapsody, Roxio, VAIO entertainment center, a link to Napster, AOL video, not to mention the Windows Media Player and there are a few Utility. There are about 10 differerent VAIO applications. I'm tempted to just get rid of them all.
The next desktop computer is going to be a homebrew, that way I can avoid all the junk software. Sheeeeesh! -
Yeah, I got rid of most of the software that came with my VAIO. I ended up keeping Roxio for DVD burning --- but that might be about it. I'm in your camp -- the less fluff running in the background of my computer, the better (even if it, in the end, doesn't really affect performance at all)!
The VAIO Software package
