Lets admit it folks, nobody compares to sony vaios when it comes to LCDs. Also, there are few others who can beat or even match their looks and sex appeal. Im sure there are quite a few VAIO owners who bought one simply for the look. Why did you buy a VAIO, as opposed to other brands? Toshiba, Acer, HP, Compaq, Apple, ASUS, etc

I purchased my PCG GRX570 almost 4 years ago strictly because of what I consider to be the best LCD therefore display on the market. And the unit is still running strong despite having removed one of the RAM chips due to a faulty RAM slot.

I agree I would say most buy them for the screen, and then the look and design would be close second.

Nobody can hold Sonys jockstrap when it comes to screens.

I wanted a Core Duo Processor
    I wanted a Dedicated GPU
I wanted a Wide Display less than 15"

The "look" played a very small role in my decision. Simply, no one else offered the specs.

I was really looking at the MAC, but didnt' want the lage display. The was the next closest in specs with a smaller display.

Is there even another laptop brand that can even compare to sony for screen quality?

if by four letter name you mean having a reputation
for creating top-notch displays, then yup. though i
did not see the laptop before buying it, i trusted the
many opinions in favor of the display quality alone.

the weight was important to me too, as well as the
option to switch between integrated and dedicated
    gfx-cards.

does anyone know the kind of plastics sony uses? cause they feel a lot like apples and not like other pc laptops lol. Most pc brand laptops feel the same, but not a sony.

The bad thing is that VAIOs arent the most durable, and do look fragile compared to other brands. Maybe its the white colour? lol

I bought an SZ more for the specs than anything else, but it is a very nice-looking machine.

I bought my SZ160 purely on specs. There was/still is nothing else out there with Core Duo and dedicated graphics that's as small or smaller than the SZ160 (not a whole lot even BIGGER is available). The fact that it's a Sony or a Vaio meant nothing to me (my last notebooks have been Fujitsu, Acer and IBM), except perhaps as a justification for the abnormally high price. But I sort of expect to pay that for the first of something this unique.

    Factors:

    1. Screen Display & Sleek Design

    2. Screen Size (wanted something less than 14" but not 11" like TX... 12 and 13.3 were the only other choices)

    3. Specs (Core Duo, Performance)

    4. Somewhere deep inside my heart and mind, I wanted a VAIO. I wanted my top cover to shout 'VAIO'. Don't know why, but everytime I saw these four letters, I squirmed for not having it. No more :))) .... On second thoughts, maybe this was the Top reason for buying it. Ofcourse it helps that its a great performer as well...

Oh well, like Al Pacino says (in Devils Advocate)...

"Vanity...is my favorite sin".... So I bloody well indulge... haha :)

So I guess thats what it is ... Pure indulgence... what else would you call buying a $2.3k laptop? when there's stuff available for 1/4th that price.

Screen, Specs, Design, Price In that order :p The FE is pretty cheap compared to other similarly spec'd models.
