I am currently planning to upgrade from my type S to a TX.

I am in between these two models but, to be honest, I could not tell the difference. Can anyone help me out?

    Thanks

    Sony VAIO TXN15P/B
    Sony VAIO TX850P/B

Actually, I think the only difference is the
"Wireless WAN : Sprint® Mobile Broadband service"
The TXN15P/B has it whereas the TX850P/B does not.

Only difference between the two is that the TXN15P has built in WWAN, in the form of EVDO from Sprint and an antenna on the right side of the notebook which can be taken off easily and the TX850P does not have the modem nor antenna. Also, the TXNs are slightly thicker than all of the other TXs, one member said was due to the built in WWAN modem. I noticed this myself in Bestbuy comparing two TX models and in Sony's official specs.

I would also think that the TX850 is a bit cheaper, as it is being phased out and will have some incentives to get it out the door, while the TXN is new.

Yes, the TX850 should be cheaper than its equilvalent, the TXN15P.

you folks forgot to mention the finger print reader device that might contribute to its thickness.

But to clarify, both the TX850 and the TXN15 have a fingerprint reader.

Yes, only that the TXNs have an antenna on the right side and a Sprint EVDO model built in and are also slightly thicker than all other TXs.

Is there any way to add the built-in EVDO from Sprint on the TX850? Or Cingular's 3G perhaps?

You can buy the EVDO module from Sony's parts site, but it's not cheap. Last time I checked it was around $400.

Also, you have to be sure that there's a proper mounting location in your TX for the module.
