    Hello

This has nothing to do with Sony notebook but it does have something related to Sony battery recall issue *ahemhem*. This is a stage demonstration of a exploding Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) Battery. This is not one of those recall battery but it is something interesting to watch.

I don't know where to post this video but since Sony made the battery recall, I thought it would be best to post under Sony forum.

Now I see why the Battery Recall is important!

    Wow...good find!

Just to be safe, I removed the battery from my notebook and buried it in the backyard.

Notice the screen is off, they probably just swapped the terminals on the battery and plugged it in to charge. That sort of thing is really easy to do with Radio Control models that use big battery packs.

That can't really happen as shown, it's interesting to watch but is more like setting it on fire with a match than having a battery failure. In real situations the battery would just fail and maybe blow some smoke.

So you mean those cases where the battery did rather more than smoke a bit were made up? Shame no one told Sony that. They might not have had to replace those millions of batteries then. ;)

Well... Obviously, that movie clip is staged, but that doesn't make the *real* battery failures any less dramatic. We're not talking a bit of smoke, but also setting fire to the notebook or whatever was near. They're not kidding when they call them about "exploding" batteries.

I should have edited my post a bit before I went to bed- but anyway I really don't think the fire danger is that major.

Just expressing some frustration at people who like to shake up the beehive making videos like that... I have to explain that kind of stuff to easily frightened consumers =)

They were pretty clear about the fact that it was staged. From the pics I had seen of the notebooks with batteries that had failed, I'm sure I remember seeing fire. The chances of it happening are probably pretty slim, yea...but could you imagine if it were sitting directly on someone's lap when that happened. Yikes! Even the first cell exploding, while not as violent as the later ones, would still be pretty scary. Smoke, fire, and battery acid doesn't seem like it would be very kind to the skin.

Thank god most Sony laptop place their battery at the back

My fujitsu have the battery right under the keyboard. If that does happen.. aiyo...

Normal laptop battery have 6 cell? 8 cell?

Just want to know so I when that does happen "hope not", I would expect a certain number of explosion.
