I just found this forum through a Google search. Lots of good information here. I need some advice from you. I am in the market for a new computer. I am considering the Sony
A-290, Apple 17" Powerbook, and the 20" iMac G5. I will be using the computer for the following: database using Filemaker Pro, Photoshop, audio, web surfing, watching and recording cable TV. I do not need the portability of a laptop. I want the following in a computer: quiet operation, sharp screen, good build quality and reliability. I have used both Windows XP and Mac OS X and find them both adequate. I plan to use iTunes for audio and the Airport Express to enable a wireless connection to my home stereo. My digital camera is a Sony V-1.
The high resolution screen on the Sony is a big plus as it will be the equivalent of a 20" desktop screen. The reason I am not considering a Sony desktop is that there is no available LCD screen with the resolution of the A-290. The Powerbook and iMac also will have lower resolution than the Sony. Another advantage of the A-290 is the included entertainment dock to watch and record TV With an Apple computer this will be an additional purchase. I have seen the A-290 listed for around $2,600 which seems like a good price considering the screen, 1GB RAM, 100GB Hard Drive, Bluetooth and WiFi, and the entertainment dock.
All the comments on this forum deal with the A-190 model For those of you who own the A-290 what are your comments on the computer and why did you purchase the Sony over the competition. Will the A-290 be good for my needs. Thanks in advance.

I personally have the A190, the screen is one of a kind(A290 has the same screen). *NOTHING* else has a screen that even comes close! The Docking Station and remote were the main selling points for me. Being a DVR is kinda cool too! Speakers sound remarkably good(and loud).
