I'm thinking of springing on a FZ240E/B. Seems like a good value 15.4 XBRITE-ECO, Intel Centrino Duo 2.0 ghz, 2gb ram, 250gb drive, Intel graphics X3100, on sale for $1,099
My primary use is business running MS Office, Acrobat and apps specific to my business. Couple of questions
1. I don't really need thin and light, but of course I prefer it. Is this comp durable enough to be carried around and take a few bumps? What about the keyboard? I do a LOT of word processing and tend to hit the board pretty hard when typing.
2. I don't think I need dedicated graphics because I won't be playing games on it. However, I do like to play a collection of HD movie trailers. I assume the Sony will play these fine because my Sempron laptop using the Intel graphics plays them no problem. Anyone had probs playing HD material?
3. I like the large size of the HD, but see that it only spins at 4200 rpm. I suspect this won't be noticeable for my uses, but wonder if overall it is a bottleneck for the machine. I don't know that much about about Vista, but I read that HD performance isn't as important because Vista loads more of the progs into ram. True?
4. A little off topic, but I do transfer a lot of files on my home network. Worth buying an N router?

If $1099 is the price of the FZ which you're buying with those specifications, thats a great deal.
1. The FZ is not a ultra-portable, but it is durable enough to endure what you cite.
2. With Intel X3100 integrated graphics, light gaming might be pleasurable, but I dont think its too good for heavy gaming. For watching movies though, its good, and the fantastic screen of the FZ makes it great.
3. Surprisingly, for a 200GB, 4200RPM is not too slow. I think you will only notice some lag if you are transferring really, really large size documents. Vista does a lot of caching, so for opening Office documents/etc its no problem.
4. I'm not too familiar with transferring files over a home network but if prices for wireless-N routers are like $80-99, it might be worth the investment overtime. -

I'm going to spring on the FZ. Did a search of on the large capacity battery, cheapest I could find was $250. I'll have to save up for that.
