... I'm strongly considering spraying over my palm rest with some sort of clear or texture spray paint. I have slightly oily skin, and find myself literally getting stuck to the palm rest. Sounds gross, I know... but its actually quite an annoyance and very irritating. And yes I have tried WASHING MY HANDS before use so lets not go there :p

Yesterday I basically had the entire SZ apart trying (unsuccessfully) to upgrade the EDGE card to a 3G card. The EDGE card on these are apparently soldered to the mother board. But I digress...

When apart, I noticed the palm rest is a single piece of metal, and the touch pad and all other parts can unscrew from it, leaving just the bare metal making it very paint-able.

My question to you is this: anyone tried anything similar? Can you recommend a paint that will provide a nice non gloss slightly textured surface that will resist creating a friction point between my palms and it?

PS: If successful, I wonder if this would help those folks with the shock problem?

Are you sure that you're not getting electricity through the palm rest? I used to. (Test with multi-meter, or lick with tounge :)

As for painting it. How about a clear gel coat over it.

(OT...but..) When you had it apart, did you happen to notice the connection between the EDGE circuitry and the plastic external antenna? Any chance that the antenna could be removed?

Actually, I wonder if Sony, like other notebook makers, runs the 802.11a/b/g antenna up the side of the LCD...

(If only I'd open my own...)

slightly off topic, but when you took your sz apart, did you notice if the front casing around the lcd can be easily removed? I would like to paint mine silver to match the palm rest
