Keep the 320, unless the 7200 is a Hitachi drive no gains to warrant the extra cash and less storage space...He is a quote from the "Which hard drive should I buy?" thread:

Looking at PortableOne's website it doesn't look like you can get the Z570 with the P8600, you would have to step down the Z550 or up to the Z590...

Thanks, is getting the P8600 over the 9500 a good idea?

Harddrive upgrade would be little benefit as mentioned above, plus its more expensive for less space.

Other than that, not much else to add... Are you sure you don't want to buy from sonystyle with the 300$ off deal? basically get a 2 year extended accidental damage warranty for 20 bucks and neoprene cases for 2 bucks each.

I read in another thread (user:swam) that the 320 GB HD makes some noise. Maybe is going to be better the 200 GB.

I read that too. I ordered the 320 GB and hopefully it doesn't make too much noise. Keep in mind swam said that it's still quieter than the Z's fan....So I don't know if it's that significant of noise.

    By the way,

    http://laptopsinc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=VGNZ570NB&Category_Code=SONYZ

That has a P9500 CPU. what was daemon talking about?

Anyway... Same config. with P9500, 3 gb ram, 320 gb hdd, business

    Laptopsinc/Portableone with 2 Year accident warranty + 1 free neoprene case: $2,500

    SonyStyle
with 2 Year accident warranty + 2 neoprene cases: $2,375

No taxes have been included in those prices and shipping is free for both.

With sonystyle, you pay $125 less plus you get an extra case which you could sell yourself on ebay or to a friend. Think about this before you buy.

Also, if you end up hating it, you get 30 days to return to sonystyle, shipping on your expense (about 10 bucks for fedex). Usually no restock fees (the rep on the phone said she hasn't seen sony impose restock fees on any laptop returned within 30 days, but she said she just has to say that restock fees MAY apply just by standard procedure)

OTHERWISE, if you don't get a extended warranty, then in this case Portableone is the better buy.

I have the 320GB/5400rpm (Toshiba) in my Z and it's not too noisy at all IMHO. It's certainly quieter than the drives in my last 3 laptops. Maybe I just got lucky and got a quiet one?

The fan noise on the Z is worse than I'd hoped for, but I had very high expectations! ;)

If you run in silent mode with power saving etc, the fan is honestly barely audible when it's on. It's just that if you work the CPU hard in a more power hungry mode, it will work much harder.

That's what I said when I did not know Sony seems to be only(?) using Toshiba 320GB. The Toshiba is not a very good performer.

With this information I would choose 200GB/7200rpm. Unless I would need the extra space ofcourse.

i was thinkin of 7200 RPM but 50 bucks more for less space? meh... 200 aint that much more than 160, which i had before and had only 50 GB left on it and i didnt even have any school work, movies, pictures nor music on it. just programs and a counterstrike source.

50+40= 90GB i would have free if i have the 200 GB... videos easily can fill up quite a bit and music well over 10 GB. Photos are large too sometimes..plus powerpoints with pics, ect.. I'd be down to 30 GB in no time. cutting it close for lappy thats supposed to last 3 years for me. i dont want external drives either.
