Hello, I have a sony vaio vpcsa3bx with an i7, 8gigs ram, and a 6630m. Monitoring the temp and frequencies using cooltemp and trying to play skyrim ive noticed that soon into loading the game my processor will fluctuate from 700mhz to 3.3ghz. I can even hear the fan spin up or down depending on what frequency its sitting at. Now when the cpu is at 3.3ghz the game runs flawlessly, but if it drops to 700mhz its basically unplayable. Should it be throttling this much?

I set the mode in vaio system controls to maximum heat dissipation, and under power management the processor min and max speeds are both at 100%

It just seems odd that it would throttle so quickly and thus pretty much not allowing me to play a game.

Hmm, I upgraded to the new sony bios (the one that breaks sata 3) and it seems to have fixed the throttling. Cores run at around 84-87*C now in game and are staying around 3.3ghz. So who knows.
