So ensuring i didnt get a defective device and while i'm still within my 14 day return period I was wondering if other people with the FW series (I have the 465J) version have a little give on the piece on the laptop where you plug it in to charge (top left of the laptop) and if you press it on the top part of it, it sorta pushes in a little bit. I also noticed its easily scratched as a I have a small scratch right where the the screen touches that part when closing the laptop (look at it from above as you slowly close your screen youll notice a little piece sticking out from the screen that can scratch the power input piece).

P.S. After rereading my own post I think people might confuse the power input to the power adapter, I'm referring to the place where you plugin your laptop located on the top left of the laptop near the hinge.

Please make your messages clearer - try taking a photo to explain. Anyway, my 'power input piece/hinge part' is a little wobbly if forced too. The power input plug also wobbles in the power input slot of the 'power input piece/hinge part'. I do not have any scratches on the 'power input piece/hinge part'.

The left one has the scratch its barely noticeable but its there, and the 2nd picture shows the wobbliness.

Great pics! :) Yes, mine has that much free movement inwards when forced too - so you have nothing to worry about (assuming we both don't have dodgy lappies).

Now it's my turn, does your power input plug (of the power adapter) wobble in the power input slot???

see pic ...oh, I don't have a scratch from the bottom of the screen when it closes though. I do have a scratch above the power and HDD LEDs (on the corner of the palm rest) were my watch strap has scratched off the silver paint exposing the white plastic (like your scratch). Why they didn't use silver dyed plastic I'll never know - grr! Oh, my lappie is currently being repaired for a uneven backlight on the LCD and they say the scratch is wear and tear and will not be covered under warranty - just letting you know.

indeed it does, looks like we are both paranoid lol. what do you mean an uneven backlight because there are times where my comp looks much darker at the top of the screen then at the bottom. is that the same thing? do you have a picture?

Looks like yours is misaligned. Did you put your notebook in a backpack by any chance? It is possible that the hinge get pushed by its own weight and crushed.

I, also, am curious to know just what the backlighting problem was that Sony is fixing. In other words, what type of backlighting issues does Sony itself actually consider to be irregular?

Also, a friend had a problem with the adapter or the interface of the adapter cord with the computer (not sure which) that affected the screen backlight and sometimes even the hues of color. A change of adapter and cords solved the problem.

Let us know if Sony links your wobbly cord with the screen backlighting issues. In fact, suggest to them that they check that out!

I have a little bit of wobble in mine. It's not way too bad. I do keep my laptop in a case inside my backpack. I don't think it has had an effect on the hinges though. The connection with the adapter feels very solid, with a reassuring click, but once it's plugged in, the socket housing does wiggle inside the hinge a little.

My FW590 is four weeks old and I have not carried it anywhere, as I have the FZ, and it wobbles a little. I believe that it is supposed to be that way and actually a little more give would be welcome.

mine has been wobbly since I bought it (FW490). Its a bit annoying, but it also means should I trip over the cord I know I won't yank the laptop down with me.
